We will have a better idea who the potential stars could be after this years world championships. you have to rememeber that going into the olympics Degale was pretty much a nobody on the squad hadnt got past the opening round in the world amateur championships. who knows we could have another world amateur champion then we will see if we can say how strong the squad is
To be fair Degale lost to the eventual Silver medalist in his only World Ams attempt and that guy (Blanco) only got beat by a certain Matt Korobov so not the best example there. By no means was he favoured to even medal for sure but to say he was a nobody with numerous internationals, EU Silver and Commonwealth bronze is pushing it. Kal Yafai's special, hes brothers also good but unfortunate his best weight class was dropped from the programme now hes got tough competition. Hope Luke Campbell keeps his great run of success going and not to forget Bradley Saunders whos got a ton of experience. Not sure if Joshua's going to have enough experience to go though he has exceptional talent. Simon Vallily has impressed Rob Mckracken so ive heard and really seems to have turned his life around and could do great things. Joe Ward looked amazing beating Kenny Egan hes very good prospect
Ok fair enough i see your point maybe a bad example.....but the point stands that people are complaining its not as good a squad because we dont have a Frankie Gavin Joe Murray David Price types knocking about but a lot can happen in that time and some of these boxers especially the younger ones can develop very quickly in the space of a 15 months. Somebody can go from being a squad member to a medal prospect very quickly. I think Anthony Joshua could do big things if he develops over the next year and a bit but its a case of will he continue the progression and peak at the right time.
