**** off QUILLIN. He already turned down opportunities to fight both Martinez and Golovkin. Suddenly willing to fight anybody once he knows it's an impossibility due to GBP being exclusive to Showtime. Sounds like he started that bull**** with his cute self-interview to me. He's going to be left out in the cold from any top matchups and it ain't because he's all that. Enjoy the irrelevance, pal.
Good for him, he's out of the picture. The only fight for him is possibly Geale. Sergio is tied to HBO and Macklin is also under Dibella; Golovkin will be exclusive to HBO very soon, Chavez is Top Rank and thereby also HBO. Daniel will be prefering a fight with Martinez over... Quillin any day. 160 is one of HBO's few strong suits and they are going to use it. No surprise whatsoever Martinez is now entertaining a bout with GGG... They have likely already been in his ear about it. Last September, it was "who would give a flying ****". Who's Quillin??? That guy on Showtime.
It's a Martinez UD until I see him look really past it or GGG wrecks someone more legitimate than anybody he's fought so far even if those 'legitimate' names are against fighting HIM (funny, huh?). It'll be extremely interesting to see how Serg looks on the 27th. Bet he fights Geale in the fall, though. Which is still good, of course.
Martinez schools GGG. His game is uneven at this point, even for all his speed and power. Give him 2 years, but right now, I'll take the man with footwork and bottomless stamina. He's king for a reason. I'd like to see Chavez Jr. and GGG. It'd be an incredible war.
Sergio isn't slick enough IMO. I don't think he's as wily as say, Ouma, and I see him getting involved too much. Don't get me wrong, Sergio will be winning more rounds but if Chavez can catch up to him Golovkin can break him in half IMO. Needs to happen.
The broken hand, the hurt hamstring, and the pace of the fighting he was setting weren't just factors in Chavez catching up; They were reasons. Martinez spent everything of himself trying to knock Chavez out, and it didn't work. An error in judgment, not one that would be replicated in a rematch. Golovkin's speed would suggest to me that Martinez wouldn't have a gameplan nearly that bold. Until Golovkin proves he can take the Calzaghe-Lacyesque beating Chavez Jr. received that night, I can't pick him. He was too straight-forward, rash, and tired in his fight with Rosado(Who is a textbook gate-keeper, and a full weightclass below. A very good fighter, better than Ishida, but not in the conversation with men like Martinez and Geale.)
Great balanced post but I'm really not that impressed with Geale myself. I guess I'm not with Sergio either. He's slipping IMO, even accounting for the injuries suffered last time out. Murray is a pretty dismal contender anyway, this won't tell us much. I hope Sergio deals with him quickly so we can move on to something more substantial/
Geale is dealing with the tougher fighter in Soliman. GGG and Martinez are special talents, Id like to see them fight other special talents.
If the result hasn't changed to an NC, they'll have to honor his contract. But I don't know if it changed.
That's cuz he's not that impressive - Geale is just a good fighter. Hard to be impressed if the last thing we saw from Martinez was him crawling on the canvas. It's understandable if Martinez rematches Chavez later this year - big money fight on ppv. But I don't like the idea of Martinez-Geale. It looks good on paper - a unification fight - but Martinez is a much better fighter and he will win decisively unless he slipped considerably. GGG is still untested but he fought on HBO, a titleholder too and most importantly he is the only fighter who looks like he can dethrone Martinez. GGG-Geale would have been nice way to determine who's the wortiest challenger but I'm not sure if Geale is eager to face GGG.
Agreed. Let's be honest if he wasn't a crock GGG Vs Pirog would be very interesting and might still determine a feasible no.1 contender. Then again if Barker got a shot and Murray is now then GGG doesn't need to 'prove' anything. The champ' needs to stop fighting the soft touches from my shores. And compared to Golovkin, Macklin Murray and Barker are soft touches IMO.
