lets talk ppv numbers...

I hope that is sarcasm, because if Manny Pacquiao had beaten Floyd's PPV numbers LukeO would be skywriting it as we speak. In another thread a casual, Pacquiao fan mistakenly stated that Manny always outsells Floyd, so it's clear that the PPV numbers matter to Pacquiao fans too.

 

What numbers did floyd do pre-oscar? Then why compare his numbers vs jmm post oscar to pac vs jmm pre oscar at featherweight?

Oscar put both guys on mainstream map.

Fact, your stock is as good as your last fightm pac outdrew pbf in their last fight.

another fact for you, jmm=mexican fight pbf on mexican independance day with 6months promotion. 30mil mexicans in US. population of puerto rico=4mil.

 

What does that have to do with anything? It sounds like good promotion to me. I do believe Manny has had good promotion fighting on key weekends and holidays as well.

Its not excuses, its facts. Pac's biggest numbers pre-dlh was 300-400k.

Floyd fought the likes of Judah, Gatti, Castillo, Corrales - pretty big names at the time, none of those fights reached above 400k.

All of a sudden Pac & Floyd fights DLH, the mainstream america hears of Oscars opponent, Oscar looses to these guys so they become the new face. Both guys never even came close to making a mil, heck they have even touched 500k before DLH. Now they can fight a decent fight and break 1mil.

Pac did 1.2mil against Cotto...Cotto is not that big a name...heck Cotto with Mosley did 400k...

My point with that is, Pac-Cotto outsold PBF-JMM in their last ppv fights. You cant tell me Cotto was more marketable, because on mex independance day, JMM had 30mil mexicans to draw from in the US, Cotto had 4mil tops from his own country. Despite Pac-Cotto being more expensive at $55 a pop, it outsold PBF. Thats a key indicator there.

 

Okay. We know. If this is the ointment for your Floyd historically outsells Manny wounds, so be it. Feel better? Now what?

I think that marketability has a big impact on a fighter's legacy, don't you? If a guy is an amazing fighter and nobody knows it, then who cares, right?

 

No, I believe it's the accomplishments that determine the legacy. Floyd sold more PPV's then Ali has....what's that mean? Also, Butterbean has sold more PPV's in the US then most top American HW's.

Big PPV buys just means you had:
a) A good promotion machine behind you
b) Cable TV w/ ties to your promoter
c) marketable charisma to sell to those needing "drama" outside the ring.

If a guys is an amazing fighter and no one watches, he's still an amazing fighter.
