Battling Battalino and Freddie Miller were almost unequivocally involved in a fixed fight so that is two world champions right there.

Alex Stewart has 40 ko's in 43 victories and his reputation is not as a dynamic puncher.

Here's how to improve Carnera .. Go Janitor .. decide to argue for the sake of boredom, deny all over whelming evidence and try and have opposition disprove negatives despite the bottom lines ... 71 recorded KO's and viewed by no one as a puncher, endless side remarks by opponents that they held back or carried him or the fact that once he lost the title and the mob disregarded him at the age of 28 and he went .500 for the rest of his career and retired soon after ...

Billy Bird has 138 knockouts and he's not the second coming of Aurelio Herrera.

Thats one fight out of how many in the 20' and 30's. Janitor 's statement was," which champions were not involved in fixed fights.?"

It's obvious the answer is Primo Carnera.

Fine response but sadly unconvincing , like many of his fights.

The evidence is very far from being overwhelming, and that is out problem.

An idea about boxing history stands or falls based on whether credible primary source material can be produced to back it up.

The writings of Gallico are not primary source material.

The claims of See could be seen as primary source material, but he is about the least credible witness you could imagine.

Furthermore, there is a major disconnect between the allegations made against Carnera, and what we see on film.

His detractors say that he is one thing, and the film shows that he is another.

His detractors say that one thing happened, and the film shows another happening.

These people put Carnera on trial, and it is high time we put them on trial.

Indeed if somebody wanted to start a thread entitled “The trial of Primo Carnera”, I would be happy to lead the defence.

Usually when there is that much smoke surrounding a fighter there is fire. On the flip side See is an unreliable source who easily could of been spitting sour grapes. Also 30 fights fixed just doesn't make economic sense I have a hard time accepting the number would be that high. Carnera was certainly spoon fed stiffs and men with little ambition to win or rock the apple cart but how many actually received extra money to lie down before hand is impossible to guess. Fights do get fixed from time to time that much is fact, didn't Thomas top dog Williams do time for fixing his fight with Brian Nielsen if I recall? I still have a funny feeling about a certain hw match I watched last week too although I hope it was on the level.

Ive intentionally not read the thread other than op , just to add my two penneth. And its as a spectator, not a self proclaimed expert.

Carnersa's too upright and too stiff. Despite showing a ridiculous amount of suppleness in training. He telegraphs a lot of his punches and compared to his biceps his triceps are too small.

He needs to get more mobile, has a tendency to become static, and also keeps his hands too low inviting trouble.

A lot of the time you can see his right coming days before he throws it, he needs to shorten his jab, stop over reaching, shorten the ring, hunt people down and be more ruthless. Use his physical attributes of height, weight and reach.

I'll read back now and see how much of a c**t ive made of myself :p
