His defense was immaculate this fight.

 

That's what surprised me a bit, he is usually more hittable, especially early on but he barely took a punch this time. I think partly that was down to his counter punching totally shutting down Spence's offence. That's the thing with counter punching it turns your offence into defence and fighters get tentative and fear throwing.

Absolutely. And he was never praised for his defence. It's all in the nuances of head movement,feints, and positioning!

 

Most of smart folks have known this for years. None of us seriously thought Spence could beat Bud outside of maybe a lucky punch or something. Bud is way too skilled and smart for Spence(and everybody else) for that matter. Outside of PBC folks no one would have said otherwise.

I think most smart folks knew Bud was the far more skilled and smarter fighter. I think what may have surprised some but not me is Bud is just as powerful as Spence if not more so. But power can only take you so far. It's the skills and ring IQ that puts you in that special class that Bud is in.

 

Remember when the experts on this board were so sure Crawford would be able to hang in the Welterweight division? Hilarious.

Very impressive he made a fighter that dominated the division for years. Never looked like losing. Made him look ordinary.
