    No, do you?

(As in Levinsky's claims being true, not the quote being fake)

    Old McDonald has a farm
    E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had some ducks
    E-I-E-I-O
    With a quack quack here
    and a quack quack there
    Everywhere a quack quack
    E-I-E-I-O

No. But I’m curious why Levinsky said it, and whether or not he really thought it was true.

"I gave you respect and paid you the courtesy of giving a detailed reply explaining my opinion and politely asked for your reply.

I don't believe he was an outstanding challenger ,who had he beaten to qualify as such?
He hadn't fought a good heavyweight since 1914, over 7 years earlier and he only won that fight on a disputed dsq.

Let's objectively look at Carpentier's best wins.
Jeff Smith a pre prime middleweight 22 years old, 8 years previously.
Willie Lewis a fat middleweight and 38 years old ,he had lost his last 5 fights and won just 1 of his last 7.
Ted Kid Lewis an overstuffed welter weight who scaled157lbs to Carpentier's 175.Carpentier hit him while the referee was breaking them. This is Carpentier's only successful defence
GunBoat Smith . A highly dubious dsq win,and his only good one over a heavyweight of any class
Battling Levinsky.Past his best and many thought he went into the tank for this one.Harry Greb had beaten Levinsky 5 times out ot 5.
I submit these are not wins that qualify a man for a shot at the heavyweight title. And unlike say Bob Foster ,Carpentier does not have a history of dominance over the light heavyweights of his era.He won the title from an average fighter held it for 2 years successfully defending it once against a fighter who scaled 157lbs,and whose best work was done at welterweight, and lost it to one of the worst 175 champions Battling Siki who beat no one of note before facing Carpentier and no one of note afterwards.
    Bottom Line the best fighters he fought;
    Klaus
    Papke
    Gibbons
    Tunney
    Loughran
    Dempsey
    Beat him.

I'd appreciate an answer to my question two posts on this thread ago.Thanks."
Obviously I wildly overestimated both your manners and your brains. It won't happen again!

Instead of insisting I defend a position I don't hold you could just reread the posts I already made.

I've already made my position on Carpentier clear.

I don't know whether Levinsky's statement is true or not.

What I do know is that you can't make it into a negative for both fighters!

You either dismiss it and vindicate Dempsey, or accept it an conclude that Carpintier was a credible challenger.

How does dismissing the quote vindicate Dempsey? At this point I’m just curious whether anyone knows why Levinsky would have said such a thing.

You seem to be reading too much into my posts. I went looking for the suspect quotes Perry/HOUDINI keeps reciting about Dempsey's punching power and found a bunch of other quotes instead. So I posted them. Sue me.

In the sense that Carpintier would not have hit harder than him after all.
I can only see two possible reasons really.

Either he sincerely believed it to be the case, or his testimony was biased by some other factor.

Actually in later years levinsky said dempsey was the hardest hitter he fought..... That you had to be very careful when fighting him.....but i can't find the article.

    I
"Jack hit me the hardest punches any human ever threw..". Carpentier on dempsey 1 961

The last combo to hit Carp was a beauty and Dempsey’s favorite combination. Right to the heart and left hook to the chin.
