To keep it short, my thesis is that Lew Jenkins KO 3 Lou Ambers for the lightweight title is one of the greatest cases where a title changed hands in quick, extremely lopsided fashion. I would say its at least comparable to Sandy Saddler knocking out Pep in the 4th round or Foreman vs. Frazier or Liston vs. Patterson.

Ambers had wins over Tony Canzoneri, Fritzie Zivic, and Pedro Montanez (who was a tough contender). He also gave a prime Henry Armstrong more hell than anyone else managed. He was a world champion when there was only ONE world champion.

And after losing to Jenkins he beat the dangerous Bummy Davis to prove he still had it.

Where would you rank Jenkins' win compared to other quick title changes?

Amber's was a monster. Resume out the door and looks great on film. He had some very good wins leading up to the Jenkins fights but they were also at the tail end of his career. Maybe Jenkins just had his number and hit as hard as some reports say. Either way Amber's is by far the much greater fighter in my book. Amber's was a true ATG

What would be the best film to view of Ambers (if their is variety of choice) to see his style?

Jenkins had the "touch of death" in his punches. Sober or drunk, he was one of boxing histories all time 1 punch knocker outers. Any lightweight in history, any. He catches right goes to sleep. It is a great book on him. You should get it Robert.

Ross and Amber's are my 2 favorites out of that grouping. Ross being a decorated war hero is the icing on the cake. Mad respect

Oh yeah. And the way he started fighting as a kid seeking revenge for his father's murder in their store. Then as a teen being a runner for Capone. Then of course was it Guadacanal. The wound. Morphine. ****** on My Back. I got a real shitty bio of him. But endless sports articles by the very greatest who covered him. A real "tough guy".
