It's funny - but when you get to the bones of it, what is he doing on tv being paid to render an opinion?

My bad but no great or even decent magazine would publish such rubbish, a joke of a magazine

i'd love to some of these guys come on here and argue their case against lewis.

he is missing an 'x factor'? this just looks like an excuse made because he can't think of a significant valid criticism of the man

as for saying loads of fighters would beat him but not naming any of them... you could try saying that about any boxer and get away with it because you haven't risked specifying who would beat them

these are the types of criticism made against great fighters who the writers just don't like for some reason, its pathetic

Well they are re-printing opinions of well respected boxing analysts. I hardly think it's a case for a burning. Also, there are other points of view in the article, I was interested in hearing justifications and rebuffs for these though, which is why i picked them.

Sugar certainly thinks very highly of Dempsey, he has him in his top 10 pound for pound.

Here's some training footage of Louis and Marciano from that documentary:

I was just watching that footage GreatA! Thanks for putting it up.

Anyone ranking Dempsey top 10 pound for pound needs to be put the **** out of their misery. I'm serious man, they should be following the baseball or the football, eating hotdogs and talking about the economy. Dempsey is nowhere pound for pound.

    1 Sugar Ray Robinson
    2 Henry Armstrong
    3 Willie Pep
    4 Joe Louis
    5 Harry Greb
    6 Benny Leonard
    7 Muhammad Ali
    8 Roberto Duran
    9 Jack Dempsey
    10 Jack Johnson

I've always disagreed with anyone who ranks Dempsey/Johnson in the top 10. The ESPN's top 50 greatest list had them in their top 10 as well.

I don't see how it could be justified except for reasons outside of skill/talent/resume. Maybe their popularity and the impact they had on the sport... :huh

It's a horrible list. But that "impact on the sport" thing seems to be a justifaction for all sins (see also the 80 of the last 80 years Ring list which is gike).

It's all about the image and being able to tell a story. That's what Sugar's been feeding on for decades. Hell, even Max Kellerman is being paid by the largest boxing broadcasting show. Outside of Freddie Pacheco and a few Showtime guys, he's the most annoying commentator i've ever heard.

I don't know how you can watch his fight against Vitali and say that. That was much more of a fight than a boxing match. Same is true in the first round of the Tyson fight. And he blew through Ruddock, Grant, Golota and Rahman (rematch) so effortlessly who knows if they would have been brawls, but it certainly looked like he was prepared for one.

I seem to only know him from his inspirational corner speeches for Moore and helping a young Tyson. I know he picked Hatton and said he was "going with the underdog" but I never knew he was that bad with picks.

Yes, he definitely tries being prestigious while catering to what's popular.

That's pretty funny and bad. But I do like his commentary on Friday Night Fights and on my Fight Night 4. Does he joke around when he makes his picks? Or is he seriously picking who he believes to be in the winner. Maybe a bit of both...
