Lewis Crocker has joined Nick Ball as the only two Brits holding a world title. In my humble view, Lewis has lost his last three boxing matches. However, that means nothing, for he is a world champion and is undefeated. Congratulations to Lewis, and to top trainer Billy Nelson, who, throws his name into the hat as possibly the world's best boxing trainer at this present moment. I know for a fact that Scotland is so proud of this man. Nick Ball, to me, appears as though he has peaked and is on the descent. That may leave Lewis Crocker as the only Brit world champion. What an achievement. What path will Lewis Crocker take? My advice to Lewis would be, that if he takes the Connor Benn payday, to knock him out, because his fortune with the officiating, in my humble opinion, will stop there and then as he takes on not only Connor Benn but also Matchroom. Despite being world champion, you will be presented as the B-side, Mr Crocker.
Well, Crocker needs to take the path of least resistance for the most money. The smart move is to push for a voluntary against the biggest name possible with a rematch clause — ideally someone like Garcia. He shouldn’t be mixing it with the top Brits right now, bar maybe Conor. Essuman and even Catterall would start favourite over him, and with huge names like Teo looking to move up, the risks are everywhere. At this stage, all Crocker should be focused on is securing his financial future — otherwise the Donovan win doesn’t serve much purpose, IMO. If Billy was managing him, I think they’d be 100% on that route. But with Conlan, the danger is he ends up in some double-header with his brother against a random top 15 opponent — and the likeliest outcome there is he gets beat.
Basically do a Kambosos. Flog his belt for as much as possible with a rematch clause thrown in. Even if he gets beat he’ll get a few more off the back of it.
Dunno if it’s quite the same. Kambosos was able to leverage/milk that win over Teofimo for three years despite never looking like doing anything similar since. Crocker hasn’t beaten anyone with that sort of name recognition so I feel like once he loses the belt that’ll probably be it.
He has the IBF belt which is usually the easiest to reposition yourself once you’ve lost your belt. Can get back to mandatory in 1 or 2 fights with them.
There doesn't seem to be much buzz around this at all. You'd think for Britain to get another world champion (or belt holder) that would be a big thing. As I've said, I soundly believe he's lost his last three boxing matches, but I don't have anything against him. He seems a nice bloke.
