Would Ali from the Lyle fight have beaten Lewis from the Mercder fight?

    I`m starting this thread in response to someone that said Ali from the Lyle fight would have decisioned Mercer from the Lewis fight, I disagree and point to the fact that Mercer managed to give Lewis hell while Ali was doing nothing v Lyle then rallied and turned it around, no way could Ali at that stage have stopped Lewis, I`m adding a poll, would Ali from the Lyle fight really have beaten Lewis from the Mercder fight?

    No imo, Ali would have lost.
    Lewis would have gotten a decision win over Muhammed, can't see him turning it around on Lennox and stopping him.

    75 Ali does way too less damage and pressure to care Lewis achilles heel: the chin. Too slow and not enough reach to deal with a young Lewis to win a decision as a second option.
    In fact this would look pretty ugly for Ali. The best Ali could do is keep Lewis busy to lose a decision before Lewis takes this to the street.

    Be a lot easier to do that to Ali in the late 70`s than in his prime, his chin was far more solid than Lewis`s.

    Ali had more speed and landed more jabs, he also had better movement than Lewis. His chin was far stronger also and he beat far better fighters too.
