That's just absolute bollocks. It depends what you mean by boxing fans I suppose. Hatton had thousands of drunken Mancunians go to his fights overseas because he was a Manchester boy. Calslappy would most likely have had every Welshman that could afford it go to Vegas for his fight with Hopkins.

Lewis was from London and moved to Canada, he didn't really attract the ****-head but he got plenty of support in his fights over there. Also remember he was fighting in America pretty much non-stop from 1994 onwards. With the best will in the world the average boxing fan can't justify 2-3 trips to Vegas or wherever per year for 9 years straight.

Lewis was/is just as well supported over here as Hatton or Calzaghe. As a fighter, he eclipses them both by a street and the knowledgable boxing fan knows this and appreciates this.

I was reading the thread and saw a bunch of drivel posted throughout this thread by people like Heavyrighthand and numerous others, I didn't even comment on what Lewis said

Bad hands is not an excuse, its like saying if Calzaghe had bigger tougher arms he would punch harder. A boxer is what he is, weak hands are a flaw, just as a weak chin or arms are, little arms, big head, big thighs, weak thighs etc etc etc....if his hands are not up the the game then tough..,just as weak chin isnt an excuse neither is weak hands. He is what he is.

    .

So why doesn't every boxer have these "bad hands" that unables them to punch but only slap?

A man who boxes surly must have a strong fist above anything else?

It's called wear and tear. Why do some boxers have iron chins to begin their career and glass jaws at the end? Why does an NFL player who used to run a 4.3 run a 4.8 at the end of their career?

It's not like Calzaghe's 25. He's 36 and has been boxing his entire life. His hands have been broken and injured numerous times and like every athlete, eventually your body starts to break down. For some it happens sooner than others.

Yes that is also true....and if you're referring to my good self then yes I appreciate both Hatton and Calzaghes achievements but I know to put them into context.

For instance Lewis was criticised for not fighting a prime Holyfield or Tyson, yet both versions of those fighters he faced were 6-7 years younger than the Hopkins Calzaghe faced, and Lewis didn't struggle the way Calzaghe did.

As for Hatton, well he gets massive credit from me for taking the Mayweather fight when everyone knew he was in for a hiding yet we still don't know for sure if he's the best 140lb fighter in Britain as he's ducked Witter all these years. Compare that to Lewis who had no problem beating up Mason, Bruno and McCrory back in the day. You could also add Akinwande to that list, I believe he was a UK fighter.

    Excuse for what? :huh

Do you expect guys with brittle hands to go all out for the KO every fight? BOxing isn;t about winning by KO, it's about beating the other guy.

    Mayweather....
    Jones Jr....
    Calzaghe...
All members of the bad hands club.

All had significanlty more KO's earlier in their careers as well.

You can argue all day with me but Calzaghe never has been and never will be a puncher; end of story.
