Thanks for the download, as it confirms clearly Lewis confirmed he would fight Vitali again. This fact has been forgotten or ignored in subsequent years in debates on boxing forums.
Just a pity he never did.

Very sadistic of Lewis to entertain fighting Vitali a second time. Vitali got so messed up from the first Lewis fight that soon after he had to take a few years off. Lewis was absolutely destroying Vitali, if a rematch would have taken place then that would have been Vitali's last fight and he would never have become mayor of Kiev or done anything productive after that. Good thing that Lewis decided not to go through with it.

Imagine what a younger Lewis would have done with Vitali. Full ten count with Vitali going timber.

I kinda disagree with you on that one. I personally think that the Holyfield fights and the Rahman I fight were learning experienced for Lennox Lewis. As evidence for this I contend that the Lewis that fought Holyfield would not have been able to utterly dominate David Tua the way that he did, the version that fought Holyfield might even have lost to Tua. With all this being said it's obviously my opinion that believe it or not Vitali Klitschko fought the best version of Lennox Lewis that ever stepped into the ring.

Ok. I am listening. Who was this better version of Lennox Lewis?

The one who smashed Golota and Rahman. Rahman II version of Lewis is the best I've ever seen in my life.

You have to be joking. 37 years old, career heaviest, slow and lethargic, took Vitali on 2 weeks. This is the best version of Lewis to you ?

He was, but the fight was fairly even, Lewis won the last 2 rounds and Harold Lederman had it 3-3 after the 6th. If it wasn't for the stoppage, Vitali might have end up with one eye and no further career. A lot of ifs here. At the end of the day, Lennox won is great fashion, defeating the future number 2 of next era in his prime, while he himself was past his best in terrible condition.

No matter how hard you spin it or make excuses, Lewis tucked tail and ran away from the rematch after giving Vitali his word that he would rematch him and the reason why he didn't rematch him, and every single one of us knows this, is because he knew he was losing the fight and the cuts saved him and didn't believe he would be able to win it.

This is a sport of warriors and cowardice is not a warrior trait and by making excuses for Lewis draft dodging when the time came to go to war again you're sending out a message to the youth, to your sons, future armies and warriors, in no uncertain terms, that such traits are admirable and to be celebrated and that deserting your comrades and leaving them to die on the battlefield is acceptable behaviour.

I come from a time and a place where you would be skinned alive for running away from a fair fight, let alone encouraging your sons to do so, and I'd be one of the first to volunteer to do the skinning.

Shame on you people. Shame on you. :shakehead:

It would be totally understandable if Vitali demanded he rematch him in Ukraine with a home ref and three home judges and Lewis believed he would get robbed but the fight would've been on neutral soil again.

If AJ or Usyk did the same they would be crucified on a molten cross.

Usyk is rematching giants he whooped or nearly KO'd after giving them his word he would despite neither deserving a rematch whatsoever

And don't get me started on AJ who is being torn to shreds for ducking an immediate rematch after taking a brutal sustained beating and being KO'd on his face by a murderous puncher even though Lewis would've been sparked out cold from every bomb AJ took prior to the finishing blow and that one would've put Lewis to sleep for a month.

AJ hasn't said he won't rematch Dubois he's just taking some time to recover to ensure he's at his best before doing so but many are pelting him with rocks and rotten fruit and veg as he hangs on a crucifix, the same people who shower Lewis with praise for deserting his troops on the battlefield and leaving them to die like dogs in the mud
