Look at all that damage Lewis did to Vitali in only six rounds.

He punched holes in that guy's face. Multiple cuts above the eye. Multiple cuts below the eye. Nearly punched his lip off.

Vitali's sitting there with 60 stitches in his face holding it together.

I don't think we've seen that much damage inflicted on someone's face in a heavyweight fight in the 20 years since.

And the fight was only half over.

    Just brutal.

    Don't you mean testicles?

You never know it might have happened in the rematch which Lewis shamelessly ducked.

Lewis did, in fact, quit. He quit the sport from the safety of a chicken coop whilst a Ukrainian fox was on the prowl

He quit because he was scared and didn't believe he could win the rematch and it doesn't get anymore straight forward than that.

Oh, so just like Vitali did retiring instead of fighting Rahman. Scared of the mandatory contender, because he could lose due to his body breaking down.

Quit after suffering a career-threatening injury and even if we do hold that against him that only makes it worse for Lewis because he ducked the rematch against a quitter and was so petrified of ever stepping foot in a ring with him again he quit the entire sport

And who did Vitali quit against? Slick southpaw Byrd. You know the guy and style Lewis wanted zero to do with

Vitali was an injury-ravaged mess when he retired for four years. You think he was scared of a glass-jawed bricklayer like Rahman? Lewis fights Rahman 10 times he gets KO'd at least 4 or 5 times, Vitali fights Rahman 10 times he KOs him 10 times

It doesn't. It just shows the fighters can retire whatever they want. So either they both are cowards and quitters or we just accept the fact that health is more important than boxing.

Byrd was tailor made for Lewis. Wladimir was a white carbon copy of Lennox with harder punch, weaker chin and no inside game and schooled Byrd twice. Lennox would probably do the same.

He was scared to lose. Just like in your view Lewis was scared to lose. Using that logic, Vitali was afraid he would lose because of the injuries, Lewis was afraid he would lose because he was old and he didn't have it in him anymore. Both were scared of their health.

Hard to tell because Lewis actually fought Rahman and Vitali didn't.

Yeah he could've just been honest about and admitted he retired from the sport because he was scared and didn't believe he would win the rematch

His sensitive little fangirl cult could admit the same instead of applying Olympic levels of mental gymnastics, spin and excuses for him ducking the rematch. It's not like everyone doesn't know why he ducked the rematch for goodness sake. I've never seen anything like this. No other fighter would be afforded a free pass and excuses for shamelessly ducking the rematch after giving their word they'd take it. Had Vitali retired immediately after that fight Lewis would've been back a few months later and we all know it

Lewis was already old and had zero motivation to keep going. Even if the first fight was competitive, he still clearly won.
It’s difficult to stay motivated at that stage in Lewis’ career.

He clearly enjoyed being the reigning inactive undisputed champion for one year, despite holding the belt(s) hostage, and deserved that enjoyment for all he achieved.

Yes it does. Vitali quit because of a very serious injury and Lewis quit the entire sport when he was 100% healthy and, despite the lies and excuses his fangirls make, was still close to his prime. Lewis absolutely still had it in him. He just didn't believe he could win the rematch even when 100% healthy and still in his prime

But OK, let's agree to agree. They're both cowards and Lewis quit the sport in mortal fear of rematching a quitter and a coward. :deal:

No Byrd was not tailor-made for Lewis. Just because Wlad wasn't scared of facing slick southpaws and beat Byrd it doesn't mean Lewis would of. Lewis never fought one for a reason

The fact you compare a 100% healthy prime or close to prime Lewis shamelessly ducking a rematch after giving his word he would take it to an injury-ravaged Vitali not fighting Rahman which is, duh, why he retired for four years is comical. Lewis absolutely could fight Vitali but he just didn't want that smoke, Vitali's body was absolutely ravaged with injuries

And no, there isn't an alternate reality or dimension where Rahman beats Vitali, let alone sparks him out cold with a single shot like he did to Lewis

With his fist? So Lewis raking the cut with his gloves didn't escape your attention either?

And I never disputed Lewis won the fight on a cut but had Vitali not got cut he would've become the third man to shatter Lewis' glass jaw of that much I am certain

Just be honest is all I ask.

Lewis gave Vital his word he would rematch him and when it came time to be a man of his word he wasn't man enough to do so and the reason why is because he was scared and didn't believe he would win it. No one else would get afforded a free pass for doing that and most of you would absolutely crucify many other fighters if they did the same. If AJ did that you guys would put a contract out on him and that's some real doubly bubbly real talk

Lennox really got to leave the sport on his terms.

An aging fighter with his final legs, up against the man of the time in Vitali. A man who cannot be stopped. Lennox stood there and used his forged armour of war as protection to sustain maintain and force out a TKO. Both were exhausted in them rounds. God gave Lennox the victory as he did Usyk. These things go as they are meant to, as written by the almighty gods of war. Think about the last 24 years of HW boxing. Really it's been Lennox, Vitali, Wlad, Fury & Usyk. It's the British Ukrainian war that history doesn't know about. Fury will end the chapter by retiring hand in hand with Usyk 1-1.

Lol! :) Yep. Been waiting and looking for years for the full post presser of this fight. Even after all these years I still remember Vitali saying “A rematch would be VERY INTERESTING” and also remember Lewis trying his best to be dismissive of that fight by saying “I’ll bust up the other side of his face” arrogantly. Told Vitali and others he’d rematch him… then didn’t like what he saw from The Johnson and Sanders fights so decided to call it a day. Definitely was there rooting for those guys though wasn’t he!

    “The LION” :wanker:wanker:wanker:wanker

Why would you tell someone and millions of fans you’d rematch him, and then not?? Simple… because you knew the true score of that Situation.

Kind of like why would you actually phone up Corrie Sanders, someone you’re not even really friends with, but someone who’s a dangerous lefty counter puncher with nasty hand speed and power… and basically plead with him to Go After Wladimir and let your hands fly and ruin a potential 100 million dollar mega fight with Wlad??? Lol I think we know.

Anyway too bad the rematch never happened. Would’ve been a proper passing of the torch and Vitali deserved that imo. Especially after the effort he gave.

The oldest, heaviest, and worst version of Lewis beat the top contender, shredding his face stopping him in 6. I'm sure he was terrified.
