You're right, it's weighing heavy on his shoulders, look at the wrinkled eyes and worry lines from all those sleepless nights!!

No one at his age or who's done over his career what he has is obligated to give a ramatch to someone just because they gave him a tough fight.

Vitali had his chance. He blew it. Tough ****.

But if they had a rematch, and it was close, then what? A third fight? :patsch

to all Lewis defenders, i cant argue with all of you at once. The fact remains, lewis promised a rematch, but never gave one. Lewis knows why he ducked a rematch and probably thought about it one or twice.

Whereas Klitschko fanboys think about it every it once or twice, every single day.

What may have happened in a rematch can only be subject to conjecture.

    TKO6 is fact :deal

I think everybody knows why Lewis ducked a rematch lol
Vitaly was getting better when Lewis was fading away. A pissed of Vitaly would take his head off in a rematch.

Dude, best to get over it...all you are doing is sounding whiny now. And I'm not even efending Lewis here. I didn't care for him too much as a pro, and I wanted Vitali to knock him out. But unlike you, can see things clear. :good

Lewis fairly won the fight fact. There was a need for a rematch, that Lewis promised, but never delivered fact.

It was hardly a combination or power punch that caused the cut. Just a graze shot that luckily split open vitali''s face

Other than that the only real damage lewis inflitcted on him was the uppercut. He was losing the fight, how anyone can say that's irrelevant needs to go watch some other sport.

Like others have said both went into the fight under poor preparation. It would have been better for boxing if lewis had honoured his word and followed through with the rematch. Obviously he didn't have anything more to prove but this guy near enough beat the **** out of him and showed he was on the same level as him.

Instead he chose the easier option of fleeing like a big *****.

I count 4 or significant cuts on Vitali's face. What did he graze him with, a truck?

I thought the whole purpose of boxing was to render your opponent unfit to continue.

Only if that does not occur do the scorecards come into play.

Seeing as Lewis achieved the primary goal of the sport in half of the allotted rounds, I'd say that's pretty ****ing relevant, and the score at the time is irrelevant. Especially as the fight was only half way through.

It's no good fighting to get a 4-2 lead on the scorecards, if in having to do that, the other guy punches half your face off.

Yeah, whatever man. Unlucky challengers don't get a rematch because they done good for half a fight, punch the winner on the arm in the ring after the fight, and provoke them into some bull**** response just to make them **** off out of their face.

Vitali didn't slip and hurt himself. He didn't get a bizarre soft tissue injury. FanMan didn't drop out of the sky and land on his head.

He got his face punched to pieces.

He was obligated. Vitali was his mandatory. Lewis decided to retire instead.
Also, speaking of obligated, Lewis sued Rahman to force the rematch. Go figure.

First, the purpose of boxing is to outbox your opponent not to render them unfit to continue. It is not a street fight.

Second, scorecards do come into play when the fight is stopped because of the injury.

Rahman had an option to retire and give up the belts - he chose to fight on. Lewis was going to be stripped for not fighting Vitali and chose the retirement route.
