Lewis or Vitali, who is higher ATG?

No, Wlad has dominated the division for a decade.

Vitali had a good year in 2004 before doing nothing in 2005 and retiring at the end of it. Then he came back in 2008 with a great win over Peter then defended his paper title to his last fight 2012 before spending 16 months inactive. Even if you add up all the years Vitali was WBC Champion and consider that "dominance" it only comes to little over 7 years - and then you have to take the 11 months he spent inactive in 2005 and 16 months inactivity between Charr and retirement from it, which would take his record to about five and a half years.

 

Accurate though that may be, boxing is not a tag team sport and the fact that Wlad and Vitali were ruling the division at the same time cannot be used to collectively enhance both man's legacy. They must be judged by what they achieve individually.

Individually Wlad has been the far more dominant fighter. Since his last loss to Brewster in 2004 he has won 19 fights, had 15 successful title defences and beaten 5 reigning world champions and 3 former world champions, and he has unified the WBO, IBO, IBF, WBA (Super) and the Ring Titles.

Vitali, by contrast, since his last defeat in 2003 has won 13 fights, had 10 successful title defences, beaten only 1 reigning world champion and 3 former world champions, and only had one fight where held more than one title - defending the WBC and Ring titles against Williams.

If we add in pre-last defeat statistics Wlad has 20 successful title defences to Vitali's 12. There can be no doubt who the more accomplished brother is and who should rate higher on all time lists.

What does that have to do with anything? Wlad has surpassed Lewis in every category possible. The question is who accomplished more between Vitali and Lewis. Vitali longevity, impressive comeback and number of consecutive title defences put him above Lewis especially considering the controvercial nature of their fight and Lewis subsequent retirement because of it.

It has to do with proportioning credit where its due and not adding credit by association. Wlad's achievements do not enhance Vitali's legacy. Boxing is not a tag team sport and Vitali cannot reap the benefits of his brothers successes.

Rahman was reigning world champion because he knocked out Lewis.

McCall and Bruno became champions only because McCall knocked out Lewis.

No. It is in need of a correction but not the one you've got. I forgot to add the year Vitali spent as WBO Champion, and with that his approximate total years as champion comes to 8 years instead of 7.

"Unofficial title reign" I dont see as being worth jack, because it counts Vitali's years as Emeritus Champion when he was ****ing retired.

Look, it was the basic facts and nothing more. Rahman was a reigning world champion and McCall and Bruno were former or future world champions, the circumstances under which they became such does not change this.

 

Although LL has that one punch egg chin, he didn't duck anyone until Vitali, when he knew he was too old. The Clits haven't fought a resume resembling that of Lewis.
