A comparison of the records of Lennox Lewis and Alexander Povetkin's first 13 opponents at the time they fought them.

    Lewis 336

    197-126-13 (116). % W 58, L 37, D 3, KO 34

    Povetkin 317

    232-71-14 (141). % W 73, L 22, D 5, KO 44

Very impressive side by side comparison.

Povetkin is 1 of the most impressive prospects in a long long time.

Thanks for doing the math on that. I think now people have to recognize Povetkin as the heir apparent. Donald is a tricky fighter. I like Valuev, I thought he beat Ruiz. But I thought Donald should have gotten the knod against the giant. Povetkin basically shut him out. People still see Povetkin's chin as a question mark, but he hasn't even been stunned yet. He doesn't have one punch ko power, but he has good skills, fast hands, he can keep the pressure on in the later rounds as we saw today and he is relentless. He could unify all the titles in a couple of years. Its not hype anymore. This guy already deserves a title shot. He is far more deserving than Austin, Barrett, Beck, Briggs and Toney were at the time they got shots.

Stats don't always tell the best tale.. Just watching the Povetkin resume, and way he has beaten them is enough..

To Stop Chapman and Bostice like he did and get points wins over Donald and Ahunanya is very solid stats.....

He is almost ready for a top tenner.. The problem being . once you take ona top ten fighter , there is no stepping back.. Using the precious time in moving his skills rather than rushing can pay heavy dividends in the bigger picture..

Guinn is the move to showcase his points standing.. maybe on an American debut.... That would be great......

Guinn is such a step back though. I think Guinn would get punished into his first stoppage loss. Not that he would be KO, but just the accumulation of punishment would see the fight stopped. He should fight a top ten fighter, Virchis, Brock and Briggs seem the most logical.

True , His KO power is not as solid as a tua or sam peter but **** that...

His combos!!!!...are so ****ing great , that he compensates this little problem and acumulates combinations , punches on his opponents...He's very active.

and that's what makes the difference. He's very different from any of the current top 10 guys.

He has a big potential. and not only that..He could be the one to grab all the belts one day...He's an exciting fighter too.

It's been a long ass time since i've seen a prospect like this in the HW division.

Hope he's not moving too fast though...but so far , He's been VERY dominant. and if his amateur career reflects what his pro career is going to be like...Then He's gonna be a killer.

The difference between Lewis and Pavetkin is that Lewis went on to be the undisputed Heavyweight champion of the world.......... We've yet to see if Pavetkin can do the same.

people saying he should fight for A title are out of order

povetkin still needs to be groomed

face fighters who can prove things without the threat of beating him

fight rahman or maybe timur ibrag

totally agree....He could probably be sultan and oleg right now but his people shouldn't bring him a long too quickly. He needs more time to refine his young (but already impressive) game.

another thing that has too be mentioned is he is not as physically/athletically gifted as LL. So I would be suprized too see him do as well. but thats not exactly a knock considering LL is top 5 ever no agruement.

Rahman, are you kidding? He would starch Rahman and Timur is in the same boat or maybe below Donald. He needs to fight someone like Virchis, if he can win that then you do go for a title shot.

Cash the point isn't that Povetkin will be better than Lennox, we don't know that yet. The point is that his competition matches up very well with that of the last great heavy.

That is a stretch saying he isn't as physically/athletically gifted as LL. In what regards? Yes LL was taller and heavier, though not by much as Lennox was around 230 for a long time and Povetkin is 225. Povetkin doesn't have his reach or height, but is faster and puts combinations together much better. Both of them have good balance and footwork.

yes many think that you just keep pushing and pushing upwards and onward.

You will break your fighter doing that, Let him enjoy his career now and again..

If Alex has a date in the US. Let him look good, give him a made opponent.

That is why i suggested Guinn, If he looks good beating Guinn in America..

    It is a PR.. Sucess..

But it also makes him personally feel comfortable fighting in front of a US. Tv audience..

It helps the whole Povetkin machine tick in a better global fashion..
