Lewis arguably has a better jab and longer right, he also had a good uppercut. Povetkin's jab is shorter, but apparently showed up quite well tonight. His right hand is also shorter, but he throws it more sharply, especially as a counter. Povetkin also has a hook to both the head and body and does utilize an uppercut. No Povetkin has not proved as much as Lennox overall, granted he is a much more complete fighter than Lennox was before the McCall fight, but I don't think he is physically less talented or that his arsenal is less than that of Lennox.
Because its still young in his career and he as of yet has not had that much coverage I can only go on what i have seen. the LL that was 230 was trim as hell, tall rangy, and in my oppinion had faster harder punches then sash. In my opionion he is only above average physically. I would like to see this last fight before making a decision but at this point I would say his stamina is worse. I would agree that techniqually he is exceptional. I guess what I'm saying is that the to me basis of povetkin's great potential looks to me to be in his mental and technical strength, more then his physical strengths. Where as LL for such a big man was probably one of the best athletes to have competed at heavey wieght.
you seem to be stuck on techniqual aspect of boxing. I'm talking more natural gifts that translate across all sports.
6'2 and at 225 he's pudgy. built like sultan or chagev. but a little stockier and more physically/athletically gifted then them.
Rahman is better than Virchis. I agree with Bigcat, Guinn would be a good opponent at this stage. A fairly easy showcase for Povetkin. Barrett or Thompson would also be good choices. Solid choices to give AP some more work before he steps up in '08 to take on the top 10 guys. I would work to get a Guinn/Barrett type in the fall, say September or October, then early in '08 target someone like Calvin Brock, a solid legit contender who has been there on the doorstep and who is pretty much ready made for Povetkin. This kid should be ready for to challenge anyone by summer of '08, that means Ibragimov, Chagaev, Maskaev, if any of those guys are still champs. I do hope that they bring him to America though and he doesn't just stay on Euro TV. His style would make him very popular here and there is money to be made.
Here is how I think they stack up physically. Lewis is taller with longer reach and I think he is physically stronger. However I think that Povetkin is faster and probably has better reflexes as he has shown the ability to counter punch quite well already. They both have good balance and footwork. As far as looks, Povetkin just don't develop a six pack but it is quite clear that he is solid as most pictures indicate as he has matured some that his chest, shoulder and arm area are more muscular than they were before and that his stomach has leaned out a bit.
ohh yeah I know he could run him self to death and eat nothing but lettus and he still wouldn't look like a track star. Not holding that against him.
I'd agree with most of this. And I'd say that at this point in his career his foot work and balance are probably better then LL's were. The one question for me would be his reflexes....but they throw different kinds of punches so its tough to tell without seeing more of sash.
Well we will probably know a lot more once the Donald fight is loaded on youtube or google video. I would agree about the footwork and balance right now. Lewis had to do more work to learn it, it seems more natural for Sasha.
yup he certainly seems like a natural. It just worries me how small he looks when he's in there with some guys. He'll fillout more though.
