I think it comes down to him thinking Klitschko was not tough and would fold in 2 rounds or so. When he didn't and took that brutal uppercut in the 6th round without going down I think Lennox said "screw this".

I knew there wasn't going to be a rematch when Lennox was putting his hopes on Kirk Johnson being able to beat Vitali so he could say "see our fight was a fluke this guy is no good" all while sitting on the belt for 6 months.

I suggest everyone here LOOK AT THAT CUT!!!! NASTY.

Look at his face. Does he even LOOK like he wants to carry on?

Vitali's legacy is losing fair and square to a hall of famer. Via a cut that if the referee hadn't of stopped the fight. That cut could have gotten worse and Vitali would have retired there and then.

Vitali was facing an aging champ. A bit like a young Mike Tyson fighting Larry Holmes. The difference is that Mike Tyson beat Holmes. Klitschko didn't beat Lewis.

So not only did lewis beat every opponent in a strong era. He also beat a future world champion when he was in the middle of retirement.

    Let's move on/

You make it sound like the fight ended right after the cut. It didn't and Vitali had at least 3 rounds to get Lewis out of there and establish his legacy and failed to do you. So if anyone didn't capture the moment it's Vitali. When you're at the level of fighting for a world championship, second chances don't always come. V.K. fans seem to feel that V.K. was owed a second chance, well he wasn't. He had a chance and if he truely wanted a legacy it was his job to stop Lewis before the fight was stopped due to the cut. End of story.

    Do you even watch boxing?

If you're ahead and you get knocked out you loose. If you're ahead and you can't continue for whatever reason you loose. Another way of looking at it was there was only one guy standing after the 6th round, and it was Lewis. V.K. was medically deemed incapable of continuing, do the damage Lewis inflicted on him. How the hell is that in any way shape or form, not losing?

The fight was stopped because of a cut above Vitali's eye not the on on his cheek. In any case, when the fight is stopped on cuts and the fighter with the cut is ahead in the match there is always a controversy. If the cut was accidental it goes to scorecards, if it was a result of a punch then it is a TKO. The punch that caused the cut was anything but clean - wild looping hand that scraped the eye with a side of a glove. The official result is TKO because it was a result of a punch, but lots of folks think of it as an accident so by scorecards Vitali has won. Hence the controversy.

I don't blame him. Because it's stupid talk of "what if". What if this happened, what if that happened, what if.......

The important part is what DID happen.

    What did happen?

1984 - Tyson and Lewis become sparring partners in their teens. Tyson goes in, in the very first round and goes all out. He knocks Lewis out of the ring. Lewis get's pissed off. Get's up and then comes back to dominate Tyson every round after that. With ease according to those present.

1992 - Lewis finally boxes himself up the ranks to fight for in WBC title eliminator. He has to defeat Razor Ruddock. Who went 12 rounds against Tyson. Lewis destroys Razor Ruddock, knocking him down in the first. Ruddock was saved by the bell. Lewis then KOd him in the second.

1992 - Tyson goes prison. Riddick Bowe refuses to face Lewis and gives up his WBC belt.

1996 - Tyson gets out of prison and beats Frank Bruno to get the WBC belt. Lewis wants to fight Tyson. Tyson pays Lewis $4,000,000 and gives up his WBC belt not to fight.

    They are the facts.

Let's stop pretending "what ifs". Lewis's career is riddled with boxers not wanting to fight him. Holyfield hid behind the corrupt WBA, Riddick Bowe refused because Lewis TKOd him in 2 as an amateur. Tyson refused. Hell McCall cried his eyes out in the ring and refused to fight Lewis in the friggin ring and Henry Akinwande was disqualified in Lewis's next fight because he refused to fight and just held, held, held, constantly.

Fact. Everyone dodged Lewis. And it's not Lewis's fault that he didn't fight Tyson earlier.

Yeah, what if Tyson wasn't passed it at 23 years of age. (Which I think is ridiculous). What if Tyson never went to prison. What if Holyfield never headbutted Tyson. What if Klitschkos eye wasn't cut to pieces. What if? Hey? What if!

he seemed very bitter about mccall and rahman.

but about vitali he seemed very assured.

with the tyson win he was that obsessed with fighting him he would probably have fought him now if they didnt get it on before.

That's how it was recorded but there is twist on it. WBC left Vitali in #1 contender spot essentially declaring the fight a no contest.
