Lewis Ritson vs. Francesco Patera & Glenn Foot vs. Robbie Davies Jnr. RBR.

Paul Smith was correct with his analysis. Ritson needs more variety with his shots. At higher level you need to be more creative with the punches.

 

Well I never compared Riston's jab to Golvokin's or anyone else's that I can recollect, but I was very high on him. I wanted to see him against Campbell soon, and challenging for a World title by the end of 2019/beginning of 2020.

 

I think one of the marks of a good fighter is how they come back from a defeat, from disappointed and Ritson has the opportunity to show us all.

I'm not writing Ritson off and I don't like him any less, it's a loss, it's not the end of the world, it shouldn't change much with the backing of Hearn/Matchroom if he is good enough.

I will be judging Ritson on his next few performances and not just on tonight, I hope people don't turn on him because of a dropped decision on a close fight.

That's why we love boxing,great fight no bs decisions and I for 1 have warmed to Lewis ritson for his humility.he will come again. A shot in the arm for boxing after the ggg v canelo debacle.

 

Forget trying to please people with excitment for next couple of fights, don't try blast people out in 3 rounds and use up excessive energy would be my advice to him.

Work on defence a bit more and jut box with pressure and break opponents down and the KOs should come.

He's well liked and has a style people like to watch, just needs to be smarter, conserve energy better and control the power shots better.

I'd be less concerned about the loss than I would be about the fact that Pantera didn't really look hurt at any stage. Ritsons whole game is his power, if that can't hold at European or World level he has no chance.

 

He was the main event of a big show for the first time, add to that he was fighting in front of his hometown fans for the first time as the draw. Trying to please the fans was bound to happen tonight, almost 10,000 of his hometown supporters turned out to see him be exciting. Not fighting there for awhile would be my best advice, brings to many feelings of expectations to try to live up to.

I do what I always do and when watching Sky sports boxing, Tolerate Adam Smith for the first few fights, then turn the volume off. Patera was boxing off the back foot for most of the fight, but was never troubled by Ritson. Patera was the Clear winner for me, Ritson hurt from Patera's body shots had no plan B. He may come back a better fighter, but I think he was outclassed tonight, not a world level fighter, but will give us some entertaining future domestic fights and there is no shame in that.

 

The simple difference for me was Patera's experience over 12 rounds.

Ritson took 3 or 4 rounds very comfortably.....

Had he not looked to blast Patera out in every one of those rounds, saving the energy to be able to use that dominant jab after rounds 5/6/7, he probably would've won the fight.


He should be looking to win rounds with that jab, rather than set up power shots with it.

 

Completely agree, I think coupled with all the over-hype of his quick KO wins recently against a tough operator whos fought better operators was a perfect storm.

Like you said, with him headlining at home, big stars coming out to see him etc wanted to put on a show. Nothing wrong with that, problem is when you try and blow opponents out early with power shots and they don't go, it empties the tank a lot earlier. He'll be back though, Eddie is right, get him boxing other areaa for his next couple of fights. Goodluck to him, just needs to make some small adjustments.
