https://www.ringtv.com/632342-lewis...zquieta-forces-ninth-round-corner-retirement/ Anyone see his performance on the weekend? He's called out O'Hara Davis. Wondering how good Ritson was, struggling to find any video highlights of the fight.
It was a routine win from what I saw- nothing to write home about. Certainly not worth your while seeking out to watch.
Ritson and Davis are at roughly the same level- neither are anything special. Decent fight nonetheless, I think it's a good match up and would be competitive. I would favor Ritson as O'Hara I feel cuts corners both inside and outside of camp, is even more inconsistent and although he can punch a bit he does not like pressure fighters at all, is a slow starter so I think Ritson could overwhelm him with some good pressure in the first half of the fight.
Ritson won comfortably, but the guy he was fighting wasn’t anything to write home about. Ritson jab and body work was decent, but he the question with Ritson will always be when he fights someone of a decent standard what will he do, as in previous fights he’s usually flattered to deceive in the big fights.
I like Lewis Ritson very much but I think he seems to be close to finished as a top-level boxer. Probellum may well arrange a couple of fair fights but as soon as they match him against a name close to the world elite he will lose.
Not sure if your suggesting the fights he had in 2018 We're against journeyman? It does seem that way. Cardle, Murray and hyland jnr were all 2018. He had a great run once he won the British off Robbie Barrett. He was a beast at British level at LW. He had a great fall once he started believing his own hype, a very common denominator amongst fighters. It's a fine line between building confidence on your ability and been downright deluded and letting the narrative that belongs within your own mind go far beyond the actual truth. That's what happened to Lewis imo. But ive always liked him, just a real shame himself and maybe the team around never understood the full picture. This is just my opinion of course
Davies doesn't seem to have any more hunger for boxing -- as though getting destroyed by Josh Taylor ruined him mentally -- and is just content to through the motions, do the bare minimum and collect his fight cheques. I think the same as you, that Davies will begin to look for a way out once Ritson starts putting it on him.
You mean Miguel Vasquez, who outboxed and outfought Ritson and was robbed blind on the scorecards, to the point where even Eddie Hearn said he thought Vasquez won and that the scorecards were terrible? I'd like to see that rematch to be honest, just to see Vasquez outbox Ritson again and see how the judges will try to rob him. I'm not sure how keen Ritson would be to do it, however.
