    But they don't!

People accuse Bowe of ducking Lewis

People take a sly dig at Lewis for vacating rather than facing mandos

    The two are different!

Did Ruiz and Byrd hold a knockout win over Lewis in the finals of the Olympics?
Did Lewis went on to fight Fergesson :)lol:) to avoid Ruiz or Byrd? No, he made fights with Tyson and Grant, who were higher ranked, perceived as more dangerous, MUCH more marktable and did more for his legacy.

The two situations are as opposite as possible.

Bowe and Newman wanted the HBO dollars against soft touches. Like other fighters who would be criticized for his in the future (namely Roy Jones), Bowe was getting a lot of money from HBO for mismatches. He fought Dokes, Ferguson, and a supposedly finished Holyfield in the rematch.

Eventually I think it would've happened anyway if Bowe and Lewis kept winning, but they didn't. Bowe lost the Holyfield rematch and Lewis lost a year later to McCall. And as said before, in 1996, negotiations fell apart.

Remind me of your position on the debacle, Zak.

I was under the impression that you specifically held Lewis himself accountable for failure to engage Bowe.

Bowe ****ing ducked Lewis and everyone knows it. It may have less to do with the fact that he was afraid of Lewis and more to do with the fact that Lewis stopped him in the Olympics.

No, everyone does not "know it," including apparently Lewis himself. This is a myth that is perpetuated by Lewis fans. Boxing history is riddled with fights that didn't happen because there was more money to be made elsewhere.

Easily, Ruiz was NOT number 1 contender when Lewis signed to fight Grant, Akinwande was! Akinwande had hepatitis though and so the WBA gave Lewis permission to fight Grant instead as long as his next fight be against their Number 1, who they later changed from Akinwande to Ruiz. Lewis was stripped of the WBA belt not by the WBA but due to a clause in Don Kings contract for the Holyfield rematch. The WBA didnt agree with the decision to strip him but had to follow the court judgment hence introducing the WBA Super champion status.

Now, as for Lewis ducking Byrd, he had a rematch contract with Tyson which Tysons lawyers officially asked to be implimented at that time, also Vitali Klitchko was taking out court orders trying to get his WBC number 1 ranking enforced. If he said he was fighting Byrd instead he would have been accused of ducking Klitschko and a fitter better prepared Tyson!

But the most damning evidence against any notion that Lewis ducked Byrd is this, Byrds promoter [Don King] entered into an agreement with Lewis to drop the IBF title so King could set up a tournament called the "Hard road to glory series" from which to find a universally recognised challenger to Lewis and set up a Undisputed unification bout. He organised for Byrd to fight Holyfield for the vacant IBF title and Ruiz to fight Roy Jones for the WBA with both winners to fight and unify the IBF AND WBA belts so as to then produce one recognised champion to fight WBC, Ring and Lineal champion Lennox Lewis for the Undisputed championship. If you dont believe me then heres the press conference to announce it and theres Byrd standing right next to Lewis.

Larry Holmes attended this press conf in place of Jones who got held up.
In the end, Jones chose not to defend his title after beating Ruiz which put a spanner in the works of the tournament but thats hardly Lewis`s fault.

Lewis heckled bowe so much because riddick and his team were effectivley removing lennox from the hugh payday and keeeping it in the holyfield circle,

damn right he was pissed off, wasnt bowes team even visiting tyson injail to get a hugh fite

but chicken bowe I dont believe that

as for ruiz I read that king and co handed over 1 mil and some vehicles to get hold of the wba strap lol they bought it and unlucky for them I dont think jamnys fights made up for it LOL

Lennox also was the visionary behind the wba super champ status for that he should be shot
