Lewis: "The Klitschko Brothers Should Fight - You Heard That Right - They Should"

The point that Lewis missed is this: What happens if Vitali retires and vacates the WBC belt? Wlad can't challenge that belt then because he can't become mandatory holding the WBO/IBF belts.

The only way for Wlad to grab the WBC belt before Vitali retires would be by

a) beating Vitali in the ring
b) Vitali losing a voluntary defense and then Wlad using the rematch clause in the contract to fight the winner for the WBC belt

I would assume before Vitali is forced to retire and vacate the WBC belt he would go in the ring with his brother and let Wlad win a UD12 so little brother can take home all three belts.

Most of these aren't first time challengers. First time challengers like Gomez that got a HW title shot in the last 10 years. How dare you list Tyson, a guy who got new title shots because of his past HW titles?

- Lewis challenged in 1993 give me a break.
- Byrd? You have got to be kidding me. Byrd's best HW name prior to fighting Vitali was Ikeabuchi and Byrd lost that bout. Byrd had a record of beating a string of nobodies before challenging Vitali.
- Peter boxed a bunch of nobodies before he lost the WBO eliminator to Wlad. Gomez opposition is no worse than Peters prior to Wlad.
- Wlad got his WBO title shot in 2000 by beating nobodies like Bostice, Barrett and Schulz. How are these wins better than Gomez'?
- Vitali beat Purrity, Bean & Donald prior to challenging Lewis. Again, how are these wins better than Gomez'?

So far we got Toney and Chagaev. I'll take them.

Fact is Gomez doesn't have to hide behind ANY of the HW title challengers of recent years.

Seeing that you don't respond to how I took apart your "list" of amazing challengers I would say this case is closed. Gomez was as credible as anyone.

 

- Lewis challenged for Rahman's title in 2001...
- Byrd won the vacant IBF title by out pointing Evander Holyfield. Before that he beat V Klit and David Tua.
- Peter had two wins over James Toney and a win over Jameel McCline.
- V Klitsckho held wins over Sanders and Kirk Johnson before challenging Sam Peter for his title.
- Tyson had been KOing the second tier heavys in impressive fashion before challenging Lewis in 2003.

All better than anything Gomez did before laying down for the older Klit...

 

I like Lennox, but this is nonsense. Because it isn't tennis they should not fight, one of them would likely get ktfo.
Imagine Vitali's face cut like in the fight with Lennox after 8 rounds, and Vitali knocking Wlad around the ring a la Sanders in the later rounds. That wouldn't be pretty to watch, ok maybe it's good for the haters of esb, they could claim Klitschko got ktfo.
But there would be huge discussions and questions afterwards in the world wide media why brothers do that to eachother.
Lennox could as well knock one of his own family members out and tell us how fun it was.
Not the same because both Klitschkos are professional boxers? I'd say no difference, one Klitschko would be on a stretcher anyways. People who say they'd fight their brother for money are mentally wrong, or they know they have no power to hurt their brother badly. And dont say they get money for it, you materialistic pricks!

Who did Lewis beat before he got his WBC title shot in 1993?
Who did Byrd beat before he got his shot against Vitali?
Who did Peter beat before he got the IBF eliminator fight against Wlad?
Who did Vitali beat before he got the WBO shot against Hide?
Who did Wlad beat before he got the WBO shot against Byrd?

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS SMARTASS. DID YOU ALSO CRY FOUL BEFORE THE ABOVE FIGHTS? HOW THESE WERE ALL NOT CREDIBLE HW CHALLENGERS? "THEY HAVEN'T BEATEN ANYBODY"?

Gomez did things exactly the same way as any of the above names. Plus he fought 11 Cruiserweight WBC title bouts and won all of them. I understand that doesn't mean as much as HW bouts but that added a tad of credibility to his already sizable HW resume.

 

Anybody who is questioning Gomez credibility as a legit contender doesn´t know anything about boxing. Period.

But it seems they never will. I don't actually think Vitali is going to be around all that much longer either, say a year or two at the limit.

 

Lewis destroyed Razor Ruddock for the title shot. Much better win than Oliver McCall and Virchis.

WBO wasn’t a real title back then so we should count who Byrd beat before he challenged IBF. Those names are Vitali Klitchko and David Tua.

Who did Gomez beat before he got his eliminator shot with McCall?
Before challenging WBC title Petter defeated James Toney and Jameel McCline. He also had a tight match with Wladimir Klitchko.
Gomez didn’t do anything close to that before his title shot.
