The problem I have with your video is that the IBF gave Usyk an exceptionnal authorisation to fight Fury for the rematch.
Great video as usual Rummy. Agreed that Usyk being stripped is wrong. I think even if Usyk had defended his title before rematching Fury, they would have stripped him. The alphabet organizations do not want a unified champ.
Even if they really did so in earnest, they've been trying to pre-emptively ruin something fans have been waiting on for more than 2 decades. And I have my doubts it was in earnest. Bottom line for me is that the shady alphabet bodies with their corrupt pay-to-play schemes foster an environment that is unhealthy for the sport.
I listened to this today at work. Good stuff. I agree with the point that the people know who the real champ is!
What would we do without you and your videos @Rumsfeld; we would be poorer in terms of boxing knowledge. Like this: If I compare only HW career - Lewis is bigger than Usyk. And if I compare complete careers, I would have to wait for Usyk to finish his career. Because Usyk has "zero", but Lewis doesn't have many defeats either; two (2). It will be interesting...
Good video Rummy. Everybody knows who the world HW champion is at this point. Undisputed, undefeated Usyk. Irony upon irony there. Usyk is 3-0-0 (1 KO ) over the pair that are competing for the IBF belt. Regardless of what any of the alphabets say or do, Fury is the man at HW until someone beats him.
I do not share the emphasis on undisputed which seems fairly modern. To me what matters is the lineal belt. The HW title has never been undisputed for a full decade but there was usually a clear cut champ. In this case there being one alphabet belt would be greatly beneficial in naming Usyk's successor and avoiding the situation that followed Lennox Lewis's retirement. If theres one alphabet champ and the lineal champ retires you just make that belt the new lineal one. I greatly approved of the Hrgovic v Dubois interim title fight for this reason even if AJ(whose also retiring soon) likely winning that belt throws that in the trashcan. In terms of keeping the belts together the mistake the IBF made here is making someone Usyk already beat Hrgovic's opponent. If it had been someone else maybe Usyk sticks to his promise to fight the winner after the Fury rematch which the IBF agreed to? Hrgovic was "supposed to win" but he didn't and now we have AJ v Dubois 2 guys Usyk beat fighting for a belt. And not only was Usyk always unlikely to fight the winner that belt is unlikely to produce clarity when Usyk retires. Not that I approve of stripping a champion for not fighting mandatorys I think the practice should be done away with.
