I'd like to see someone actually put forth an elaborate argument for Jeffries winning this fight for a change. But the best I'll get is probably Perry telling me I don't know anything about boxing.
First you have to define Jeffries, which is a good deal harder than defining Lewis. It would be much easier to construct a case for an open verdict, than a case saying that Jeffries should be installed as favourite. The best that you could manage would be to say that Jeffries was a 220lb man, who circumstantial evidence suggested to be exceptionally fast for his size, with good power refinements. While this is enough to say that he could beat Lewis, it is not really enough to say that he would beat Lewis.
Jeffries Power and Endurance nowdays would look like a future athlete. And with modern Boxing skills he would destroy any HW around today easy in under 5 Rounds. You even know who Jeffries is? Thats the strongest Boxer in History , even stronger than Foreman moron. That guy drinks 2 liters of blood an stil standing and gives a **** and these fa-gots today cant even run 500meters or risk anything in the ring. Jeffries was a real Warrior and his time was Crazy , today times are like Disney Land.
To so underrate such a great athlete and fighter is crazy. Jeffries rose in an era where one had to be the toughest of the toughest to get to the top. He would be a monster in any era.
He was a very tough, durable man ,but he said the hardest puncher he met was Joe Choynski. Choynski weighed 167lbs for that fight. Would Jeffries chin hold up against super heavyweights power? Guys like Lewis and Wlad? Jeffries was a monster for his time ,at 6' 218lbs he was significantly bigger than nearly all his opponents, now he would be a small heavyweight. Explain how Jeffries would be a monster today.
Lewis, of course. Jeffries struggled vs Corbett and Choinsky, how do you see him beating giant like Lennox?
He was rated very highly for many decades for a reason. As was/is Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Ali etc. Jeffries just because he was Jeffries was not an exception to this ATG list How do you determine all time greatness? ATG qualities.....will to win, courage, durability, the ability to take great punishment and not quit, the ability to punch hard, cleverness. We can argue whether one ATG would beat another for sure BUT we SHOULD NOT erase many many years of boxing trainers, fighters and historians that considered Jeffries an ATG. Just looking back on records and then believing one finds fault is not justification to erase known history. This includes any fighter not just Jeffries.
If you are replying to me,you haven't answered my question. If you are replying to the previous poster, then I would say this, Choynski and Corbett are rated as ATG's, how much chance would you give them against Lewis? With one exception,[Ruhlin] Jeffries was a latterday giant beating on much smaller ,and often older men, that doesn't erase his achievements, but it must be factored in when assessing them. NB I discount the Munro farce For the most part those old historians and trainers never saw the likes of Louis, Marciano , Liston, Ali,Holmes , Foreman, Tyson,Holyfield. Many would argue that is 8 of the all time top ten right there! Which historians ,/trainers ,from the 1950's till today have Jeffries in their top ten?
Qualities that will lose him a fight vs any top ten HW today: left hand down by waist making him susceptible to over hand right, squared up stance with right hand waving in the wind such that anyone with a decent jab would bust his face open, bigger/stronger HW's walking through any of his punches (see Jack Johnson fight), slow punches and old time UFC style grab and hold type style very easy to defeat by a modern boxer with better movement and quicker punching ability. That's just a start.
