Lewis v Jeffries?

Agreed 100% funny like several people think that it is simple as you are heavier so you are bigger... Nonsense. You can not get bigger frame training weights. Michael moorer at 175 was bigger than roy jones at 190. Foreman at his version of low weight of 217 pounds was bigger than tyson at 221. Ron lyle was bigger than david haye packed of muscle.Carlos monzón was taller and still he weighed the same that hagler, you could think that Carlos was a long skinny fighter. But no, he had bigger frame than hagler that was muscular but a smalish mw

 

I don't understand why that is on Lewis?

Shouldn't it be on the ref. Just like Holyfield uses his head like a battering ram, most fighters at the top will take all the advantages they can get.

 

It's on the ref and rules. The OP can clarify. Just pointing out how Lewis bent the rules on good body punchers and Jeffries was one of them.

Jeffries fought plenty of rough guys who can punch. Most of the scar tissues happened in the 2nd Fitzsimmons fight when Fitz likely did something to his gloves. After the fight ended Jeffries approached Fitz and said I wasn;t marked up in the first fight, let me see those Gloves and Fitz quickly threw them into the crowd.

Johnson fought a few punchers, he lost to those near their prime in Choysnki, Hart, and Willard.

Had Johnson not been a hold and safety first type, he would have been marked up more often. Ketchel who hardly landed jack produced a visible mark on Johnson according to the NY times. I posted it here before. O'brien who could not punch hard made his mouth red.

But okay I get it, Jeffries get his lighter gloves for this match.

2nd question, is Lewis going to wear his padded guard illegally high to help him take body punches as he did with Holyfield?

How do you know there was nothing wrong with Fitz's gloves? He threw them away when Jeffries wanted to see them, hardly an act of an innocent man. Duh.

As for Smith, he said Johnson never forgot it, referring to the moment he knocked him silly!

Show me some proof that GB Smith was at the fight. I'm thinking your chances are slightly better than winning the Powerball lottery. It's also there for you to read ( but not remember ) that Ketchel did, in fact, produce a visible mark on Johnson.

Ferguson would have needed a better record! He was 27-8-11 by the end of 1904, and did not likely beat what would have been a top ten contender while Jeffries was champion. Judging on the people who Ko'd Ferguson, Jeffries would have had him out in a few rounds.

Perhaps Ferguson should have received another match with Jack Johnson as their 1905 match was close ( 2-2-1 in rounds ) and ended in a DQ.

1 ) His record wasn't very good. You can't not get around that. Not good enough to fight Jeffries from 1899-1904

2 ) Many of the people he beat were passed their prime or very green. Do I really need to show you this? LOL

3 ) The fact that a fighter like this was even with Jonhson before the DQ suggest Johnson wasn't toying with him in this fight. After this match, Johnson didn't offer Ferguson another one.
