Jeffries was 6 foot tall ,so he is giving up 5 inches in height.

    Jeffries ,for his major fights
Fitzx2 Sharkey x2,Corbett1, Ruhlin2, weighed an average of 213lbs, in none of them did he hit 220lbs let alone 225lbs!
Lewis, in his major fights, averages 240lbs.
    So 27lbs difference

    Jeffries reach was 76.5" .Lewis's 84"
    So 7.5" difference
.Which of his fights show this stamina that is incredible compared to his contemporaries ?
He went 20 rds to a draw with Choynski whom he outweighed by 52lbs.
20 rds to a draw with Ruhlin when both were novices.

20rds with Sharkey whom he out weighed by about 30lbs.
Many felt Sharkey deserved a draw.

25 rds with Sharkey who was 32lbs lighter ,and Sharkey made the fight for the first 20rds.This was a close fight

23rds with a 33 years old Corbett who was 30 lbs lighter and had been retired for 1 .5 years.Corbett was in front at the time of the finish

If Jeffries stamina is incredible based on those performances, his opponents must be off the charts!

Lewis could tie one arm behind his back and still beat Jeffries easily.

That's how big of a mismatch this is.

Jeffries was a very tough durable man, but some make him out to be a mythical beast ,very similar to Marciano's fans actually.

Box rec says he was 6' tall. They are wrong. I have seen many 6 foot 1 and a half measurement for Jeffries and some 6'2"s tall.

As an older man, Jeffries was as tall as Babe Ruth, who was also 6'2" tall.

Lewis had a great reach, but that did not prevent him from nearly being outboxed from Mercer who had a 77" reach ( Nearly even with Jeffries ), and Ray was a little heavy for the fight.

6-4 for Lewis was my score. Lewis had a black eye, and the fight was only 10 rounds. Mercer like Jeffries had a very good chin. Had this been 12 or 15, Mercer would have had a better chance.

Frank Bruno who was also shorter and had less reach than Lewis was also out boxing him prior to the KO.

Lewis for all his skills was never great at controlling the tempo of the fight with his jab.

Lewis, by the way, had some issues vs Ossie Ocasio, who started boxing below 200 pounds and stood 5'11 1/2 inches tall.

Referee: Larry O'Connell scored it 80-77 for Lewis!

    Jeffries was 6 foot tall.

Larry O Connell who lives near me ,and whom I know, scored the first Holyfield Lewis fight a draw!
Those named having success for periods of their fights with Lewis and Jeffries out boxing him are totally different kettles of fish.

Ocasio was 5 lbs heavier than Lewis!
Lewis controlled Tua among others with his left jab.
I haven't even given my pick ,I'm just correcting some of the myths that always get posted about Jeffries,he didn't weigh 225lbs in top shape ,he never even topped 220lbs when at his fittest. His stamina was no better than many others of his time and I've given the examples of his longest fights and their out comes .

Don't get hysterical so early, there's plenty of time for you to make a complete ass of your self on this thread.

So what you're really saying is no one can definitively say how tall Jeffries was, so how does that equate to Boxrec being wrong?

Do you know the source of the information they used?

Or maybe it's wrong simply because it doesn't fit your agenda?

Regardless, the idea that Jeffries could ever beat Lewis isn't even worth discussing in my book, so I'm off this thread.

But it is kind of ironic how you keep claiming how good the Superheavyweights of today are compared to yesterday and then all of a sudden exceptions are popping up.

Kind of kills you're whole argument doesn't it??

    >>I'm not getting hysterical. That's what you do. I am simply pointing out facts that Lewis sometimes had trouble with smaller men, and Jeffries was over 6 feet tall.

Like I said if you don't; think Jeffries would weight at least 230 today, create a poll and you'll see. Or take Adam's word that he would.

I've merely corrected posts by Reznick and Swagdefadel.
Jeffries did not top over 219lbs for any of his major fights and he was 6'foot tall whatever you say.
What Jeffries may or may not have weighed, had he been born in the 20th century is hypothetical, immaterial ,and totally irrelevant to this match up ,which is two boxers as they
ACTUALLY WERE .As all my match ups are.

Ruth is listed with three differenrt height on 3 different sites.
1 has him at 6 foot another 6.1.5" another at 6.2" Photos of Jeffries shaking hands with Fitzsimmons in the ring show Fitz to look the taller and we know he was just under 6 foot.

He was 227 for Johnson with no fat on him. Wasn't that a major fight? NEXT!

Again there are several news tales of the tape that say 6'1" 1/2

Both Rahman and McCall by the way were 6'2" tall. And Mercer a tad shorter. If you ask me, puncher's this size historical gave Lewis some trouble :)
