We know what happened, Lewis won on cuts and the fight was
pretty even or slightly in Vitaly favor until the point when it was stopped.
After that Lewis decided to better retire instead give Vitaly deserved rematch.

What do you think would happen if Lewis gave Vitaly rematch ...
assuming Lewis was possibly not getting younger and better and
Vitaly deliver performances from his next fights against Kirk and Sanders.

Do you think Lewis will have Vitaly's number and beat him second time
or Vitaly would beat Lewis in the rematch which would lead to trilogy?
In that case who would won the trilogy and would it be as memorable as Holyfield-Bowe?

If Vitali comes back and beats Peter (the question is whether or not he comes back, beating Peter is a certainty), I suspect there will be much talk amongst boxing fans and Vitali himself about a Lewis rematch. Will it happen? Probably not. But if it did, I would favor Vitali because I think Lennox would have been out too long. At that point, I don't think Lennox would be interested in a 3rd fight.

He wasn't untill the Rahman fight, so he could easily go two more times against Lewis instead against Johnson, Sanders and Williams.

Vitali landed on average 3.3 punches more per round. 3.3

It was 20 punches more over 6 rounds, that isn't a massive difference to say that Vitali had the upper hand.

Especailly since he was bleeding so badly and was getting hit with some big shots.

So, on the fact Vitali wasn't landing much more, was geting hit with big shots and was in against Lennox Lewis you can't say that in the fight he was getting the upper hand as it went on, though he had a big early adventage (round 2)

Lewis should have rematched Rahman, it was 1-1 and it pisses me off when people say that they didnt need to rematch as the first fight was a "lucky" punch and Lewis made amends in the rematch:(

Actually Lewis should have rematched Mercer and Vitali aswell.

Lewis would have trained harder and beat vitali. He looked terrible and he underestimated his opponent.

You've got to take into account Lewis's age. He was 37 when he faced Vitali whereas Vitali was more or less in his prime. Lewis might have looked even more faded in a potential rematch.

You would have ended up with something like Lewis vs Rahman. Lewis would be pissed, act like a dick to the media and train like a spartan and come back and win more decisvly

Its the double standard with Lewis, he was able to retire gracefully whilst Lennox himself took Tyson to court when he was a shadow of his former self and forced Tyson to fight him, yet gets praised for his "win".

It's hard to make the case that Tyson was too old to fight Lewis when Lennox is actually older than Tyson. Besides, I don't think Lewis gets overly praised for the Tyson win, despite the fact that more than a few people were picking Mike to win by KO. Just about everyone recognizes that Mike was past his best.

Love the avatar, KCD. I just picked up that magazine a couple of days ago.

So was Lewis at a real decline and have chosen retirement because knew that in the rematch Vitaly would beat him badly?

Lewis didn't need to rematch Rahman for the 3rd cause the first fight everybody with a brain knows that Lewis took Rahman way way too lightly. Lewis was easily winning the fight until he didn't show no respect for rahman power and it cost him. In the rematch a focused Lewis beat the hell out of Rahman. Rahman couldn't even land that big right hand. After that Lewis destroyed Rahman in round 4.

If that rematch happen in 03, i think lewis would have won the fight clearly. Remember lewis is 3-0 in rematches in which in 2 out of 3 rematches he won by ko's.
