:nonoSorry but that is complete and utter nonsense, Bowe was arguably the best heavyweight in the division between 91/95, he had less holes in his game than Lewis and whether or not he purposely ducked him is irrelevant, he certainly did far better than Lewis in his fights with Holyfield, even managing to knock him out in the rubber match and the version who he soundly defeated in 92, was better than any opponent Lennox Lewis ever faced. Bowe in my opinion won the rematch also, close fight, but i thought he won, problem wit Big Daddy was that he wasn't good at practising what it took to be great and his weight would often balloon inbetween fights which is what resulted in his relatively brief prime, hewas shot by 96 which was alarming when you consider him only being 29 years of age. Lewis had the better career obviously and lasted longer but peak versus peak Bowe was better and his matches with Holyfield prove this

Lewis was a better amateur and developed into a better pro, Bowe got hit to easily to fight a offensive Heavyweight Hearns that Lewis was, but if he touched that chin things could happen but I favor Lewis

This would have been a great fight. I blame Newman. He was an arrogant manager, and a greedy SOB. The amount of money Bowe would have gotten for the Holyfield and proposed Lewis two fight series would have been fine. But, he milked it by throwing in two stupid defenses against washed up Dokes and Journeyman Ferguson. This fight should have happened in '93, and if it had, I believe Bowe would have won. I think the only fight Lewis really looked impressive from the time he turned pro until his second reign was the ko of Ruddock. I think that fight was an aberration more than anything. Like you said, in 1993 Lewis looked pretty ordinary against a past his prime Tucker, a stationary, medicore chinned Bruno, and a plainly mediocre Phil Jackson. The Lewis of 1993 wasn't a particularly good mover and was rather mechanical in his approach. He didn't maximize his strengths like he did later with Emanuel Steward. I think Bowe's greater durability would have been a factor. Also, he had the height and reach to match Lennox. I think Bowe would be able to reach the questionable (although it had not really been tested at the time) chin of Lennox. I think Bowe would have won by ko. Yes, Bowe was troubled by slick guys like Tony Tubbs, but 1993 Lewis wasn't particularly slick. If Lennox employed the seek and destroy approach that worked against Ruddock, he would play right into Bowe's hands. If he tried to box, it would last longer, but I still think Bowe would emerge victorious, but in a longer fight.

The olympics dont mean a thing even though the fight was BS. with a BS stoppage. There was nothing around the time of this fight that suggested Lewis would easily beat Bowe. (Taking into consideration the events leading up to the Mercer fight), Lewis went the distance with a dried up Tucker, was struggling with Frank Bruno and would eventually get knocked out by Mcall who timed his terribly wide open righthand. Lewis landed a great shot on Ruddock but it didnt really prove much for him as a fighter other than what we knew he had a powerful righthand. He hadnt had the type of fight Bowe had against Holyfield to that point. Bowe would have presented a fight like Mercer did for Lewis, he wouldnt have gone down in a heap and Bowe at that time was far better than anything Lewis had experienced including Mercer who we remember wound up blowing his shot against Bowe by losing to Jesse Ferguson.
Mercer was the fight that would have prepared Lewis for a prime Bowe, but at the time he was a big righthand shooting banger with mixed up footwork and suspect defense and thats why Mcall, who had a good chin, stood in there closed his eyes and rammed a big right hand down his throat. If anyone doesnt think Bowe was capable of doing the same theyre nuts. This would have looked like Bowe Gonzalez. Bowe would have beat up Lewis badly and altered the course of his overated career!

Yet instead he became Chicken Bowe, that's quite the argument you put forth. The only problem is that it's only in your head.

This chin argument makes almost no sense to me.

Let's say Lewis who fought 44 fights was hit roughly 5 clean times a fight to his chin, which by any measure is a ridiculously low number.

So you him being hit cleanly 220 times, by the likes of Tua, Tyson, Holyfield, Vitali, Mercer, Morrison, etc. So of those 220 clean times he was hit in the chin he went down exactly twice.

That's less than 1%. and even if you say well he fought 44 times and lost twice because of his chin, that's still 2/44 = 4.5%

So a fighter has between a 1%-4.5% chance of stopping Lewis based on his record, and yet people basis their whole prediction, on this occurring.

    It's bizarre.

read my post. it explains why bowe would win. It's not just the suspect Lewis chin. Love how you try to make an exact science out of the odds of Lewis's chin caving in. It's not an exact science.

I did read your post again, and yes, it boils down to the old pathetic chin argument, which you're free to refute. It might not be an exact science but I pretty guarantee when money is on the line, probabilities matter, big time.

I can only assume both basic math and comprehension are beyond you. It makes perfect sense because your whole was that if McCall could KO Lewis than so could Bowe. But that argument falls apart when you look at the facts, which clearly demonstrate that there's less than a 1% of knocking Lewis out.

No that wasnt the point. The point was that Lewis at this time had a ton of holes in his game, so much so that a limited fighter like Mcall could close his eyes and shove a righthand down his throat. His footwork balance and defense were suspect. He had never experienced a fight like he did against Mercer who wasnt as good as Bowe. His jab and punch ****nal were not developed and his holding skills were not in place therefore he would have been forced to fight on the inside against a much better infighter in Bowe. Get it? :good

Yes, you've made a pretty good case as to why you think Bowe would have beaten Lewis (not that I agree with it), the only problem is he chose to duck him instead.

Just think for moment what Bowe's legacy would have been if he beat both a prime Holyfield and a prime Lewis, he would easily be called an top 10 ATG.

But as it stands now, he's pretty much an afterthought. Guess if he could re-wind the clock, just may have not thrown that belt in the garbage after all. Instead he may have honored the legal agreement they all signed which stated the winner of the Bowe-Holyfield fight would fight the winner of the Lewis - Ruddock fight.
