Lewis vs. Foreman almost happened twice, what would have happened...

had they fought in '93 or in '98?

In May of '93 Lewis fought Tony Tucker instead of Foreman. Foreman had looked awesome in his stoppage win over Coetzer in January. He looked as good if not better than Bowe did against Coetzer, and he fought a clean fight, unlike Bowe. Tucker was 14-0 (10) since his loss to Tyson but against mostly bums. His SD win over Orlin Norris was B.S. to most people (Norris would avenge the loss). He also beat Oliver McCall by SD.

In late '97 Briggs got the B.S. decision over Foreman and went on to face Lewis.

I thought Foreman outboxed Briggs and IMO he would have defeated Tucker as well. Briggs was stopped in the 5th by Lewis but did rock Lewis a few times. Tucker was dropped by Lewis twice but manged to last the distance. How would Foreman have done?

Had they fought in '93 it would have been a good fight IMO. Yes, Foreman had looked like crap in '92 vs. Alex Stewart after dropping him twice early in the fight. In June of '93 Foreman looked like crap against Morrison. Foreman took Morrison lightly and was on TV more than he was training around that time. Had Foreman got the fight with Lewis his focus would have been much different. In '91 Foreman did very well vs. Holyfield losing by decision. He beat a bum named Jimmy Ellis (not that Jimmy Ellis) by KO. He really looked sharp vs. Coetzer, which would have been his fight prior to the Lewis fight. This was a pre-prime Lewis. He was still kinda wild and was far from the defensive minded fighter he would become. With Foreman's durability and Lewis' agression... Foreman has a good chance at a KO win here.

In '98 it's a totally different fight. This is a prime Lewis and even though Foreman looked good vs. Briggs... this is a Foreman who is really relying on his power and durability. His jab isn't a big factor like it would be in '93. Lewis wins this by decision and busts Foreman's face up along the way.

I Agree with Mendoza's analysis. In this case the difference is speed/skill is simply too great.

Foreman knew better than to pursue a fight with Lewis.

George wouldve taken a terriible beating. Bad style matchup for him. Sure Big George could hurt anyone he could hit cleanly but I dont think Lewis gives him too many chances.

I agree if Foreman was gonna get lucky it wouldve been in `93 as opposed to `98. Lewis had some flaws. His balance was a bit shaky and he was too dependent on that lethal right hand.

Problem is Lennox couldnt have missed Foreman with those straight punches right down the pipe.

    Glad this one never happened.

Pick'em in '93; Lewis strong favorite by '98.

Not an out cold knockout, no - but ref stepping in as Lewis settled into a sniper's perch and mercilessly tattooed Big George's grill? (pun intended)

Lewis would have crushed him early either time ... Foreman never , ever had Lewis on his radar screen.

I believe Lewis would have been too much for that Foreman. Im not saying it would be impossible for Lewis to lose, the thing about George is it really only took one good shot and you were hurt..bad!..He proved his chin Vs Moorer and Lewis proved he was still just human when Rahman put him down with one shot. So anything goes with this bout, but if Lewis fights smart by distancing himself from Foreman using that great jab and great combos with alot of lateral movement George may not stand a chance.

I think Lewis hit as hard or harder than comeback Foreman; plus, Lewis was able to punch in combinations and was able to deliver his punches much quicker and much more effectively than Foreman at that stage. I can't see how Foreman could win. And Foreman, I think, gets too much credit for his punching power (during his comeback that is); one punch from Foreman I doubt would trouble Lewis much. Guys like Rahman and McCall had the speed to surprise Lewis with punches he didn't see coming; I doubt Foreman would be able to sneak-punch Lewis like that.

I am absolutely desperate to disagree with that statement. As I brought into the Foreman redemption story; hook, line and sinker. But stylistically I do not see how Big George could of beaten Lennox be that 89, 90, 91, 92, 93 or 94. When Manny came along I do not think any sane fan takes Foreman over Lewis...

What if Foreman would have kept a bit busier after Holyfield and fought a few more big name fighters?

    How about Foreman vs.

Bowe? in '93 - '96... between the 1st Holyfield fight and the 2 Golota fights

Holyfield II in '95... Holyfield beat Ray Mercer and lost to Bowe in their 3rd fight, Foreman struggled with Schulz

Mercer? in '95 - '96... gave Holyfield a tough fight, lost a MD to Lewis, beat a well prepared Tim Witherspoon

Witherspoon? in '96... the year he dominated a still good Al Cole, stopped Jorge Gonzalez just as impressive as Bowe did, and lost a close decision to a well prepared Ray Mercer.

In 93 Lewis was still raw. I think Foreman had a good chance of pulling it off. In 98 I think Lewis would have won.
