Round 5-Lewis hurts Holyfield again, and despite landing some good shots, doesn't try that hard to put him away; Lewis won this round handily
Round 6-Although Lewis landed more often in this round, the climax of the round came when Lewis unwisely dropped his hands and got struck with a big left hook; even round
So I am currently at the halfway point, and I have it 3-2-1 in favor of Lewis, it's a close fight rn.
I scored the fight 117-111 for Lewis. Holyfield's rounds - 3,10,11 Lewis' rounds -all the rest Yes, Holyfield won all his rounds clearly, and few of Lewis's rounds were close, but overall it wasn't a close fight at all IMO. Rematch was MUCH closer
Round 7-Lewis appeared to hurt Evander a couple times, but didn't try to put him away; he landed plenty of good shots tho and won the round easily
Round 9-another even round; Lewis landed a lot of jabs, but they were useless, and Holyfield connected with harder shots
Round 11-close, slow round, but Lewis was more effective w/ the jab than he had been most of the fight, and won this round
Alright, last round. Although Lewis was moving a lot and trying only to survive in this round, and Holyfield did land some good punches, I gave this round to Lewis slightly. That makes it 6-3-3, bleak for Holyfield I agree, and I've changed my mind about Holyfield winning the fight. However, although I am not a big Lewis fan, I expected a lot more out of him in this fight. His punches lacked power and speed in this fight as opposed to his other fights. Holyfield was too inactive for a fighter to win, but looked more impressive to me when he was active. I guess the reason I used to think Holy won is because the rounds he won he had Lewis badly hurt and he won the rounds by a wide margin. Most of the rounds Lewis won were merely because he threw more. So, I wouldn't give the fight to Holyfield, and I actually think a draw wasn't outrageous. I guess I would give it to Lewis, but all the talk I've heard the past few years about what a robbery it was is still ludicrous.
Does anyone agree this did not look like the fast, powerful, sharp Lewis of the fights with Mercer, Rahman, McCall, Bruno, etc.?
Yes, I think Holyfield was just too inactive and lethargic for the most part of the fight. Lewis boxed well, but his punches lacked snap, I agree here with you. But that was always the case when he fought granite-chinned guys (Mercer, McCall, Holyfield, Tua, even Mavrovic). When he landed his punches on the guys with average or worse than average chins those punches looked brutal.
