Of course it was solid. All the dummies out there who say Lewis had a glass jaw don't know what the hell they are talking about. The shots that KO'd Lewis could have taken out anyone. And I say that as a Tyson fan.
I watched it on the night and had Lewis ahead. But it wasn't a convincing performance from him against an old Holyfield.
Many in the USA press didn't like Lewis, so I'd take their cards with a grain of salt. Who among the press felt Holyfield won? Anyone who felt Holyfield won the 2nd fight is either biased or has no business scoring a fight. I disagree with the official results, the draw in the first fight was bogus. Lewis should be 2-0 vs Holy.
Holyfield fought better & had some good moments but Lewis won the fight, despite not being particularly impressive.
Lewis won the second fight; again. This is where the judges made a mistake. Holyfield showed less in the first fight than in the second fight, and as a result he fared better in the first fight than in the second fight.
Holyfield fought better the second time around, but I could still only give him 4 rounds the last time I saw it. Pretty much. Lewis was kind of sloppy and unimpressive, but still won the fight. I remember having it 7-5 for Lewis a long time ago. That may have been generous to Holyfield as I rewatched it a few years ago and had it 8-4 Lewis.
Foreman said: "If only it was not for the first fight" That hits the nail on the head. I scored 115-114 Holyfield but I could also easily see a draw. All in all, the record of 1 win for Lewis and a draw is fair. So no complaints from me.
I scored it 7-5 Lewis. But had it been the first fight and they ruled it a draw I could have lived with it. Instead we got one of the worst robberies in big fight history.
Lennox clearly won, the difference was that Holyfield fought more spirited and was more competitive than the first fight so he got accolades for that. That ain't how you score fights though. It was closer than the draw but Lennox still won.
Lewis won close but clear the 1st half of the fight was very close but Lewis won a majority of the rounds in the 2nd half of the fight. Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield 2 1 Holyfield 2 Lewis 3 Holyfield 4 Lewis 5 Lewis 6 Holyfield 7 Holyfield 8 Lewis 9 Lewis 10 Lewis 11 Lewis 12 Holyfield 115-113 Lewis
It's been a while since I watched it, but I recall thinking Holy had done better in fight 2, but still lost it by a few rounds. I also think peak Lewis beats peak Evander.
