are you forgetting that a past prime schmelling beat up and knocked out louis?

lewis has a much better chin than louis ever had. a lot of people underrate it like crazy.

I favor Lewis vs all of them. Holmes would be the toughest match up.

    Great thread!

I personally think Lennox was a little overated. He did have good skills for a big man, but for me his dominance in the late 90's came when the other fighters like Holy and Tyson were past their best. When Tyson was in prison, he could have been the man, but he got knocked out by McCall. Then after he unified the titles he got knocked out by Rahman shortly after when he was supposedly at his best. He then fought a shot to **** Tyson and struggled with Vitali. In between all that, he struggled with Bruno for a while, and Ray Mercer gave him hell.

So I think he was a great fighter, but I think people get a little carried away. I think he beats the majority of the list, but certainly not all of them.

I think Ali at his peak in around 65 beats him psychologically before the fight, and then in the ring. I think his speed would have been too much for him.

I could see him out boxing big George for the majority of the fight, but I could see George clipping him at some point and having him in all sorts of trouble.

I've debated Tyson a million times. Tyson struggled with big boxers with a jab, and I don't think Lennox would have been intimidated by him. I think if he got past 6 rounds, the fight would have been his. But in my opinion, a fit focused Mike, the Spinks version, would catch him cold early and take him out.

Holmes in my opinion was very underrated. Beautiful jab, great chin, great boxer. I think that would have been a truly great fight. Over 15 rounds, I think Larry would have taken a close decision.

I can't really comment on Ezzard Charles, but I think he beats the others on the list.

    Regards, Loudon.

marciano, charles, patterson, louis & dempsey would all be tiny HWs by today standards and also during Lewis' reign.
Lennox would keep them at the end of his jab all night...clinch if they get too close and throw in some uppercuts for good measure. Would definitely stop charles and patterson.

holmes and ali beat him no question, and foreman, louis, frazier, tyson are 50/50 in my book
dempsy, charles, marciano are amazing for the size and era, but are too small and dont have the necissery qualities to beat lennox
patterson - not even a punchers chance

Most of that list has little chance against Lewis due to size.

87 -Tyson- I favor late 90s Lewis by a bit due to height.
74 -Foreman- I favor Lewis 6 fights out of 10.
82 Holmes- I think Holmes' jab was good enough to give Lewis real trouble. We never saw Lewis against this calibre of boxer, so who knows. I'll say this, a 100 year old Holmes beat the heck out of Ray Mercer who took Lewis to the brink. H2H, who the hell knows?

67 Ali- He could move in a way that would make Lewis look very flat footed and sluggish. Also, not sure if Lewis could crack Ali's granite chin?

I don't think that there has ever been a fighter that has real advantages over Lewis. His style, power, instinct, and toughness make him a real test for anyone. I also don't think that either of K2 could challenge a late 90s Lewis, and those guys would murder most of the list also.

    Tyson is 50/50 for me
    Foreman would steamroll him IMO
I'd give Louis a great chance, whoever landed big first would win 50/50
Against Holmes I'd slightly favour Lewis
    Ali would win a UD

How do you figure this? Holmes had a better jab than Ali, more disciplined footwork, and a more powerful right hand. If anyone out boxes Lewis it's Holmes.

Holmes always struck me as open to right hands and wouldn't have the speed advantage of Ali, just my opinion

Holmes is much faster than Lewis. I can't see how that is even debatable.
