Lewis as he was the more talented of the two and would've come in better prepared. However he was ageing and his abilities in decline. That was probably the reason he retired instead of a rematch. So who knows?
If they fought 6 months after the cuts would re-open and the fight would get stopped pretty sharpish.
The oldest, heaviest, shottest Lewis struggled but stopped a PRIME - never to be seen again Vitali Klitschko. Had he actually trained properly, he would have won by stoppage, again. As for a prime vs prime matchup - don't take the ****.
Lewis by late KO if he's fit The stars alligned for Vitali and he had the best possible chance of beating Lewis and he came f**kin close but not quite there. Vitali is one of the strongest and toughest guys Lewis fought but the skill difference is huge !
I think being a few months shy of 38 and obviosly not at his best, had something to do with it How many times have we said about fighters who should have stopped... but instead they carried on and got beaten up by very limted boxers. I'm not saying Vit Klit is a limited boxer, but what would it do for Lewis if he got beaten up because he was shot.... he already had enough money in the bank... he got paid the best part of $25 million dollars for fighting Tyson... all he would be doing is tarnishing his legacy if he went in there a shot fighter and lost
I wish I would've read the thread before I voted. I would go with Lewis 6 mo after. Today I would go with Vitaili Klitschko.
A poor Lewis was only 4-2 down on the cards at the time of the stoppage, against a PRIME Vitali. In shape- Lewis late ko.
First of all, according to your avatar and you calling VK "Klit" you're obiously a Lewis fan. Second, there would not have been a rematch in 6 months dues to VK's cuts. Third, VK would have won that rematch, and that is why Lewis ran off into "retirement".
Precisely. Lewis was throwing the kitchen sink at VK and he was still there in his face to fire back at will. Lennox threw his best and he had plenty of bacon behind those shots and that is why VK's face got cut. Once there's a cut in a bad spot it will only get worse. Lewis could not keep up with the demanding pace of that fight and he would have lost had it not been stopped due to deep cuts. In a remtach it would have been a repeat (minus the cuts) so Lewis' best chance would have been to KO VK in the 1st round as he did to a "cold" Golota.
