    Simply my opinion.

    After all........

    Mavrovic won the European title.

Golota didn't win ****, other than the title of being the most idiotic heavyweight of the 1990's, barring Mike Tyson.

Mavrovic was tougher, mentally and physically, and could punch.

Golota is the better accomplished heavyweight. And Golota has solid wins in Witherspoon,Norris, Sanders, Byrd(draw)

Mavrovich has ZERO accomplishments in boxing. His best performance is a UD12 loss to Lewis.

Mavrovich would be blown out of the ring by today's B-level contenders such as Povetkin, Chambers or even an aging Maskaev. Heck even a fat Toney would give this guy a boxing lesson.

Just because he had a mohawk doesn't mean he was this super tough guy.

having zero accomplishments is not proof that someone is a poor fighter. Its just an indication that there is no proof either way. I think Mavrovic is better than all these guys out there today except for the Klitsckos

Yet another way for people to discredit Lennox Lewis. Why don't you actually think for a change? Lennox Lewis fought in what was basically considered a transitional era in which the initial wave of the Eastern European heavyweight invasion was starting to manifest itself.

In a division where American heavyweights had ruled the landscape for as long as one can remember, fighters like Mavrovic started to spring up here and there. Fighters with extensive amateur backgrounds and the physical and mental toughness to accompany it. Throw in the fact that they now enjoyed greater global freedom and could seek out American trainers and it was no surprise that among names like Mavrovic and Maskaev began to take their place alongside names like Mercer and Briggs. Even in the division below you could see it as American names like Weathers, Norris, and Mayfield were joined by a name like Jirov.

In Zeljko Mavrovic, Lewis found himself against a difficult opponent just as trainer Manny Steward predicted. A guy, I might add, that had not lost prior to fighting Lewis. It's to Lewis's credit that he was able to handle a guy like Mavrovic with relative ease. Mavrovic gave a very good account of himself but let's not go around saying that he was ever really in the fight. Against other fighters at the time, we can speculate that he would have fared quite well. However, on that night, he faced the best fighter in the world and fell considerably short.
