Lewis vs. Mavrovic has been mentioned as a similar boring safety first performance as Wlad vs. Sultan in several threads. Max Kellerman suggested during saturdays fight that Lewis coasted doing just enough to take the points win against Mavrovic without trying to take a risk and stop him. Plainly if you watch the fight Lewis landed many many big big shots, Mavrovic had an amazing chin. Unlike the Wlad fight, Lewis threw a whole range of combinations and rights and engaged toe to toe. Different opponent different stlye true but a stinker, i dont think so. Probably that perception arised out of nobody knowing who Mavrovic was. http://youtube.com/watch?v=-qJZ4kNP7HI
Correct, Lewis really unloaded on that guy, won the fight handily. Mavrovic had a freak chin. Comparisons with WALDOS timid routine against Sultan shouldn't be made, Mavrovic would have given WALDO a hard fight, unlike Sultan.
Neither was Wlad vs Sultan. It is being blown out of proportion. Wlad dominated, and Sultan had nothing for him. If anyone stunk up the place it was Ibragimov.
I guess Manny was wrong too? All the articles about it being dull for such a major fight, and how Wlad was too cautious DESPITE his success when he let it go were all wrong too? Being a DLH fan, you've become too accustomed to boxers playing it safe. You forgot what having heart is like for a boxer.
sultn was the one that tried to throw combinations but when he did wlad grabbed hold hence why Sultan threw him down to the canvas as wlad tried to headlock him in the way he did to Peter all night in that fight.
This fight was actually pretty good, Lewis did land alot of bombs on Marovic in this one, I believe he was also undefeated when he met Lewis. I heard awhile back that he had to quit boxing because he had a condition where he would lose a ton of weight for no reason.
Damn, that Lewis's shot at the end of rd11 landed flush on the chin of Mavrovic and he didn't even wobble. He had one hell of a chin.
I heard that Mavrovic said after this fight that what he's shown that night was his 100%. He just can't do better than that so he wonders if there's a point in continuing his career.
Might be...sanders also thunned him badly early in the fight. Maybe boxers are commonly overrated by us..
I have to admit that the first time I watched it (live on TV), I was expecting Lewis to blow out the guy. That mindset made the fight boring. But if I rewatch it these days, I am finding it entertaining.
