Lewis vs Vitali. Was there ever a bigger demand for a re-match in the past 20 years?

and lewis would be 38, at which age all the hw lineal champs were retired.

all the evidence is that he shouldn have been retired, not rematching - just cos some dumb ****** like you is gonna claim there should be a 3rd and 4th match at age 39 and age 40 after he tears Vits apart 2nd time around, it doesn't mean he should ignore the whole of HW history - he SHOULD IGNORE YOU.

Lennox and Vitali should rematch TODAY.

If Coetzee and Barkley could have an old-man clash, then it's pure duckery that Lewis and Vitali don't fight :hey

it'd be a pointless exhibition, and you don't need to be told.

I'm really not questioning the outcome of the fight. Lewis won due to a cut which he caused by his punches.

But I don't feel that that victory is a decisive way of winning and that is not worthy as a defense of the most prestigious price in sport. When a contender comes that close I want a rematch. Lewis is of course free to retire whenever he wants but I must also be free to wish for a rematch.

You're of course also free to rather want to see Vitali vs Johnsson and no more of Lewis. Personally I think Vitali vs Lewis II would be the more appealing fight.

Actually It's being discussed simply because Klitschko fans just can't get over it. Myself, l thought they both put up a hell of an effort and VK should gave ended it in the 2nd round when Lewis was clearly hurt. As for the Canadian angle, well I'm also white so by that logic I should be a huge Klitschko fan. :p

This was a decent and different thread idea, that was hijacked by the traditional arguments that pop up in the stupid tko thread.

Forget about the traditional "was the win legit", "who was more prime" and "who would have won a rematch" arguments. (My personal positions on those are yes the win was legit on Lewis's part, Lewis's experience was more important than Vitali's youth, and a rematch would have been 50/50, imo).

The interesting thing to think about, that this thread is supposed to be about, is that there has never been a HW title fight that so obviously needed a rematch to settle the question of who was better h2h, that was never made. Rematches are made in order to decisively answer the question of who is better, h2h, when the earlier fight has not answered that. Anyone claiming that there was no question Lewis would have consistently beaten Vitali is just not being realistic.

It's not an insult to Lennox that he didn't take the rematch, he had every right to retire. This is even more true because, as someone pointed out, Vitali was not an ATG at the time of Lennox's decision to retire. But, empirically, it is clearly the biggest example in HW history of an unresolved question of who was better among two atgs. Nothing else even comes close, if you can think of any, please post.
