I think neither of that would happen.

Witherspoon is hell a lot better than both McCall and Rahman, and thus Lewis won't certainly underestimate him and comes in his best shape, being cautious and winning on points.

Speaking on Witherspoon vs Rahman, well, Tim was better than Hasim at everything - harder puncher, better chin, better overall skills.

Had Witherspoon fought Maskaev twice, he would have KTFO'd poor Oleg twice early.

At 44 he beat Bostice KO1, Eliecer Castillo, and arguably beat Barrett.

At 42 Rahman got beaten by 3-2 cab driver

Which common opponents did Witherspoon finish in more
    brutal fashion?
    Their three common opponents are:
    Mercer
    Golota
    Bruno

Witherspoon lost to Mercer, Lewis didn't.
Witherspoon lost to Golota ,a year earlier Lewis ko'd Golota in1 round
Lewis took out Bruno in 7 rds, Witherspoon wore him down over 11 rds.
Lewis is considered one of the top heavyweight punchers of all time, some put him on a par with Foreman,
Anyone ever gone into print giving Witherspoon that status?

Make a thread on it, I'll stand by the result of the vote.

Bruno was dropped and completely gone against Witherspoon, against Lewis he was standing. You do know he was passed 40 when he faced Golota? At that age Lewis didn't have the ***** to give Vitali a rematch so decided to smoke weed in Jamaica instead. He also shook up Ray Mercer a hell of a lot more than Lewis did, this was whilst being 38 also.

You compared their common opponents I didn't, comparing them Lewis is streets in front! Lewis stopped Bruno in 7 rounds it took Witherspoon 11, no argument!

That doesn't mean anything, Bruno was beating Lewis with relative ease. The only reason he got hurt is because he had Lewis in a bit of trouble and got complacent. The Witherspoon fight was more competitive, I'll say it again Witherspoon hurt Bruno more than Lewis did. Their punching power was both top notch, a slight difference either way wouldn't be the deciding factor in a match anyway, Tim could take a much better shot than Lewis.

As I said show me one boxing writer who thinks Lewis and Witherspoon's power was equal?
Lewis is compared to Liston and Foreman for power anyone ever say that about Witherspoon?
Lewis beat better punchers than Witherspoon was.

    Morrison
    Ruddock
    Bruno
    Tyson.
Lennox took flush shots from Vitali.

    Witherspoon was ko'd by Bonecrusher.

And you don't believe a prime Witherspoon would beat all the above? Go watch the Smith loss, very fishy indeed. Still nowhere near as bad as getting flattened twice by McCall and Rahman.

My point is they were all better punchers than Witherspoon.

I think this is probably the most likely outcome. I can see a well trained, motivated and careful Lewis beating spoon on points, about 9 rounds to 3.

    I'll answer :)

No. Both Lewis and Witherspoon are better punchers than McCall and Rahman.

Comparing Lennox vs Witherspoon punching power,

Bruno - both stopped him, both had him badly hurt = equal

Mercer - Witherspoon hurt him a couple of times, but still Ray was never in danger of being knocked down in either fight = equal

Golota - Lennox destroyed Golota in 1, Tim (at 41) lost and never was able to land any meaningful punches. Advantage to Lennox

Levi Billups - Lewis won 10 rounds-decision, never dropped Billups (though landed good shots). Witherspoon KO1 Billups.

I'd say their raw punching power is probably equal, 9 out of 10.

McCall and Rahman both 8 out of 10.

Witherspoon's prime was in the 1980's, not the 1990's. Still I'd make him a live underdog in the early 1990's as he can jab, take a punch, and had a decent right hand. Three assets that gave Lewis trouble.

If Lewis lets his ego and arrogance get in the way of better common sense, he could be KO'd here.
