The why's are not important. Point is, he could have got out of any rematch clause by retiring.

Lennox evaded his 'verbal' rematch clause by retiring.

Rahman could have retired with a win over prime Lennox. But he choose to make a lot of money with a rematch.

    No.

Tyson got $5m for his last effort against Mc Bride.

Any time after that, he wouldn't be in the million dollar range anymore.

Lennox was offered a minimum of $20M to rematch Klitschko.

    Again, No.

Lewis was the clear favourite. Tyson was the underdog.

    WTF ???

    First this:

And then a page or two later, this :

    Top half, reasonable.

    Second half, shyte.

Sufficiently so that Lennox himself didn't risk even a portion of his prestige, much less his life savings on the outcome.

Lennox's time had come to its end.

    He made the right decision.

I was in a room of about 20 watching the thing. About two people thought Mike could recover past glory and pull it off.

The rest of us were making a pool on which round Lewis would end things.

This is not a controversial point. Tyson was the definite underdog.

I think he made the right decision too, but that doesn't mean he would have lost a rematch.

There was more than money at stake, he had to answer to his family he had to worry about what if he did loose, etc. Ive gone back and forth about whether or not he'd win a rematch and having just watched the 5 & 6th rounds, I think he would have, especially with the scare tissue that Vitali would have around his eye. I think Lewis may very well have won on cuts yet again.

Vladimer23 LEWIS MADE VITALI QUIT JUST LIKE HE DID AGAINST BYRD,

Klitworld= Vitali gets schooled by two guys with better skills and QUITS like a homo and he is somehow on the same level as Lewis and miles better than Ali. ATG 1 THE BEST EVER!

We don't know how a rematch would have unfolded. We can only speculate.

What I said originally was that Lennox TKO'd Vitali in 6.

    And that Vitali retired Lennox.

Now we have both speculated as to how a rematch would have unfolded, and come to different conclusions.

I believe Lennox gave the matter thought too, and obviously concluded that he would either lose, or, at a minimum, could not be confident of winning.

And given that, before Klitschko, he had mentioned fighting Tyson next, after the Klitschko bout, and given that he went to court to try to force Tyson into the ring, and given that, after Klitschko, he had a long think and then retired, I believe it's reasonable to state that Klitschko retired him.

And this would be true regardless of how a rematch would actually have unfolded.

That's plausable, but Vitali and Lewis did meet along with Lewis' mother and from what I understand, Lewis was trying to pursuade his mother to allow a rematch and she wouldn't budge. This came directly from Vitali himself.

As for the lewis fight, anyone who was watching boxing knew that Lewis was going to win, but the general public didn't necessary know that. Hell I picked Holyfield to beat Tyson when they first fought, that's how long Tyson was shot. As for the rematch, Lewis was obviously looking for easy paydays at the end of his career, and regardless of whether or not Vitali retired him, Vitali was never going to be an easy payday.
