How much Top 10 LHW Double M beat? That he won and defended the WBO title a few times doesn't mean much, nor does his HW career. If "Beterbiev Vs. Moorer" is analyzed under LHW, then King Arthur wins; by knockout. I'm not saying it would be an easy night.
War. Could go either way. Artur is a well-educated boxer who just happens to have stones in his gloves. Moorer I find similarly crafty if at times less composed. Micheal has the crack, the combinations, and the offensive savvy to dent Beterbiev badly though. That, and he just happens to be a lefty. My mooney would be on Micheal.
Beterbiev has to go up about 40 pounds and fight a guy who let’s not forget was an undefeated CW and HW lineal champion (when that meant something) with a 35-0 record before Foreman beat him. The Moorer that beat Holyfield dismantles Beterbiev without breaking a sweat. Foreman KO’s Beterbiev in the first minute of round one, and that is a useful form reference.
Moorer didn't fight at CW. He went straight from LHW to HW. I'm assuming the OP meant Beterbiev vs. Moorer at LHW. This would have been a great fight. Beterbiev has been down against lesser punchers than Moorer, but didn't seem seriously hurt on any occasion. Moorer was badly wobbled at the end of the 4th round against Frankie Swindell in their 1st fight at LHW. Moorer's LH resume isn't the best, and AB would have been a huge step up from the likes of Swindell, who gave Moorer problems. AB by stoppage in this one, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Tough one. Both at LHW though, I'll go with Beterbiev. Beterbiev's offense and power, mixed with his underrated skill would overwhelm Moorer. With Moorer at HW though? I'll back Moorer slightly here.
Yeah I edited the title to have this at LHW. Beterbiev is a beast but it'd be unfair for him to fight at HW. MM was a beast at LHW, he'd have gone thru any of Beterbiev's opponents.
Destroyer Michael Moorer. Violence is golden. Let's see Beterbiev move up to H/W, challenge Usyk for the titles & win. When & if he does that, he's done what Moorer did in his day. Moorer was 22 and 0 at Light Heavy with 22 kayos. He defended the WBO belt 9 times & none of the other champs wanted a bar of him. His surname may as well have been Tszyu - that's how much the other top American Light Heavies wanted to fight him at the time. When he moved up, he bypassed the Snoozerweight division b/c he & his trainer, Emanuel Steward, legitimately didn't think anyone there was capable of giving him a decent fight. I happen to agree with their assessment. Beterbiev should make a stop in that division to face Jai Opetaia. Winner to move up in weight & challenge for the H/W championship.
My bad, LHW. I don’t see where the OP is saying the fight is at LHW though. That’s a different argument and yes, a more valid one. I was looking at it from a physically strongest version of each and HW Moorer would kill BTB…at LHW yeah, closer fight but I am still going with Moorer.
Brandon Glanton who is a big, strong rough and tough hard punching CW who has fought and sparred some very big punchers and who fought up at SHW in the amateurs/WSB against the likes of Hrgovic has sparred Beterbiev and he says he's ''an extremely hard puncher'' Usyk who has fought a murderer's row of punchers and a bunch of the hardest punchers in the entire sport, including much bigger huge punching SHWs and HWs in the pros says the same What does that tell you about Beterbiev's power that CWs and HWs who've shared a ring with huge punchers at CW and HW and beyond say he hits extremely hard?
Judging more by how Moorer actually performed at HW, I would say Moorer could very well stop Beterbiev.
That was a razor close fight, which with a correctly scored 2nd round, would have been a draw. Not "for fun" In addition to that Holyfield was badly compromised, injured and was having one of his weird PED heart attacks that he also had in the Bowe trilogy fight. The man couldnt throw 3 punches without gasping for breath and stumbling all over the place like a drunk if he didnt have his opponenent to hold on to, the same guy who was probabl, the best conditioned HW of the era when on point. That being said moorer is still an animal at LHW and would probably be even more of a threat today with modern rehydration methods.
I don't buy non of that "sparring story" tripe. If Beterbiev was such a heavy hitter, he would be mowing everyone down in 3rds or less or is everyone he's facing iron chinned!? Don't get me wrong, Beterbiev is a big puncher for a light heavyweight but there is a reason he fights once a year and stays put in his division. The big hitters at cruiserweight would chew him up!
