Albeit none of them won the title they all had some success there beating many good contenders, espcially Johnson whose resume at hw is good enough for a Top30 or even Top25 ranking IMO. Although all of them were very good technicians. Do you rank them at hw? I´d like to have a little discussion about that. Who else would you add?

I know Archie Moore could be up there too but everybody knows about his hw credentials.

philadelphia jack O'brien drew with marvin hart, beat and drew with both bob fitzsimons, and tommy burns and giving away 42 pounds drew with jack johnson. In all O'brien drew in 2 heavyweight title fights and beat 2 heavyweight champions. he has the best record against heavyweight champions.

Williw Pastrano beat Brian London by decision...than in a rematch lost on a cut eye tko..that must have convinced him..after nervously seeing Sonny Liston emerging on the horizon that he was much better off in the lightheavy division..smart man that Willie!

None of them rank high at HW.

Lewis (John Henry) got KOed in the 1st round by Louis. Hardly great.

Michael Spinks if the LHW that ranks the highest a HW.

He "beat" a 19 year old Patterson at Lt. Heavyweight (in Patterson's 14th fight). However, I don't know many who've actually seen the fight that feel Maxim deserved it, myself included. Robbery, in my opinion.

So how is Lewis getting KOd in the first round by Louis more damaging than Spinks getting KOd in the first round by Tyson?

Harold Johnson, for example, has a much better record than M. Spinks at hw. Same goes for Archie Moore, Tommy Loughran.

it was close, I can see how maxim stole rounds by taking the play away. it was undecisive in my book.

It doesn't count as a heavyweight victory as Patterson only weighed around 168 pounds.
