This fight has the makings of a war written all over it. Heavyweight fights have been so disappointing, but this one has the potential to be exciting. Liakhovich was in the best HW fight of the past 10 years, against Brewster. But then he disappeared. Can he regain some of that old form, and make another run at a HW title? And Helenius is just an absolute beast. He's young, skilled, and hungry. Can he be the future of the HW division? This is a very interesting fight, and hopefully it can surpass our expectations and get us excited about SOMETHING in the division. Aug. 27...I know I'll be watching.
Liakhovich has looked like crap since the Brewster fight. Honestly, that fight ruined both fighters. I can't imagine Liakhovich will put up too much resistance against Helenius.
This. :deal The Liakhovich-Brewster fight was an insanely brutal slugfest war, & both were never the same again.
Brewster was brutal, but Liakhovich also gained weight after the Briggs loss, a fight he was winning until the knockout. If he's in the 230s I wouldn't count him out just yet. Really a fairly skilled heavyweight with a nice jab and solid lead hook to the body.
Yeah but Liakhovich has been off for a long time, fighting very sporadically in 5 years. Maybe that is what he needed to fully recover from the Brewster war.
Maybe, but he's always had long gaps in his career, the Brewster fight is an all-time great battle that came after a year and a half layoff. It could be that Liakovich is shot, but fighters do sometimes recover from bad losses/tough fights and regain some form. Never know.
I have to question Liakhovich's dedication to the sport. His career has been marked by Tua like inactivity.
Liakhovich has long used boxing as his piggy bank. When he wants money he takes a fight, then goes off to injoy his life....
