Both Holy and Golota put him away in two. Thoughts?

Lyakhovich's crowning moment was back in april of 06, when he beat the always dangerous Lamon Brewster at his own game. Even while his trainer was yelling his ear "If you think you can go punch for punch with this guy, your crazy". In one of the best heavyweight title fights I seen in years.

It was after that Lykahovich fell apart, fighting Briggs in early 07 and being knocked out of the ring with seconds to go in the 12th. Then nearly a year after that pitching a shutout against Valuev.

Lyakhovich has been inactive for well over a year, and his window for opertunity has all but left. That being said, he should be able to knock Bates out by the middle rounds.

Sergei is actually in really good shape.

Well, according to the weigh in numbers.

He was like 250 pounds vs. Valuev o_O

now he is 232 for Bates....

thats his lowest weight since 2003 according to boxrec....

To create more interest in this matchup, Jeremy Bates should adopt the nickname 'Master'. Yep that's right, Jeremy 'Master' Bates. I'm sorry, but I had to say that(ok maybe I'm not that sorry) :yep

    Thats not the point,bill!

Lyakhovich has been inactive for a very long time-off the media's radar.
Sergej now has the chance to showcase his skills in a sold out arena where his encounter with Bates will be shown on German tv as well as on a couple of other tv channels from countries around the globe.
Bates is a tune up fight, nothing more.
Sergej certainly hopes to get a big fight in Germany very soon so that he can make some good bucks.

Bates seems a stand-up guy but, this "he's fought a lot of tough guy" thing from Liakhovich...yeah, he has, but those tough guys tend to destroy him in 2 or 3 rounds.

Bates will try his best and take his lumps but let's not pretend Liakhovich views him as anything but a warm-up.

Even with his inactivity, if it goes longer than 5 I think he'll be very disappointed.

By the way, for those in the know, can we get a definitive spelling on his name?
Is it a 'y' or an 'i', and how about his first name? I feel bad if I'm calling him the wrong name all the time.

Tough, damon, tough to translate Russian correctly into English.
For example Lyakhovich is a Belarussian name-even the Russian version is different from the Belarussian version(in cyrillic letters).
I am not a pro translater, but I guess you have the freedom to write his name as it sounds to your ears.
Is it Vladimir in English,or Wladimir as the GErmans write,or Bladimir as the Spanish pronouce his name.No idea!

    Odo,

Sorry, but that's not good enough............. Jeremy Bates is a known loser...... Not only does Bates lose, but he normally loses by KO......... Bates is NOT in the same league as a rusty Sergei Liakhovich......... Liakhovich will box for a round or two, then look to stop Bates in 3 or 4 rds........... The writing is on the wall......... This "Liakhovich-Bates" match belongs in a gym; not on PPV in a sports arena........ This is ugly..........

Jeremy Bates is now becoming the modern day 'Marcus Rhodes' of boxing........ Rhodes has somewhere close to 30 losses with 20 something of them losses by way of KO defeat....... Not good...........

The most funny thing in it is that Bates fights better guys than some contenders will ever fight. I mean, by looking at resume, experience and acoplishments. Lucky man, he will have a lot to talk about while he'll be retired.

Liakovich by decision ? Let it be.
