Good point. Boxing in the US needs Mexican fans. Mexican fans tend to support Mexican fighters. Bad for business if a bunch of top Mexican fighters get popped for PED usage.
So the WBC will look the other way.

I think the big issue is that Tyson Fury was willing to accept some sort of responsibility, I remember when Dillian Whyte and Enzo Macarinelli both failed for Jack 3d supplement, Dillian got a 2 year ban and Enzo got 6 months or so. The reason was that Enzo admitted that he had taken it and Dillian fought and denied it.

I'm not saying Liam should admit it but if I was in the position of wanting to continue my career and I could get an 18 month ban then I would be tempted to accept on the basis I could carry on with my career. It would be backdated also iirc.

I know its would mean a failed test on his record but it was for a recreational drug and I don't think it would make a difference to his career as a whole or in the boxing fraternity.

With that little remaining in his system it was probably before he started training camp tbf. Benzoylecgonine is detectable months later.

That’s a fair point. Does still seem mad though.

A friend of mine was on a GB paralympic squad, never even intended to be, just played wheelchair sport for fun and ended up being selected. He liked to have a smoke and then got drug tested, knew he’d fail so skipped the test...ended up admitting he had smoked weed at the hearing and got lumped with a 4 year ban. But that was from all wheelchair sport, amateur or pro, couldn’t even train with an amateur club in another sport or anything. Seemed very heavy handed, especially given he never intended to become a Paralympian and was always a heavy weed smoker.

Absolute joke he was banned for so long over a bit of coke probably taken outwith camp, now he misses out on the rest of his prime and his family suffers as a result

Very true, just wish there was a bit of consistency with punishment and the length of bans
