I wasn't able to watch super closely but I did not get the sense Kurbanov won that fight.

The commentator wasn't giving him quite enough credit though.

Disagree. He was having a horrible night landing a lot less and relying on one or two bombs a round to win. Smith found range for his jab in the 3rd and beat him to it 90% of the time after that. He threw better combos landed more power shots. As I say it’s a shame he doesn’t have more power as there would have been no chance of the robbery.

Smith did very well in the last third of the fight; I had them virtually neck-and-neck until that point, and it was his work there that finally allowed him to pull ahead. But even then he was stunned by Kurbanov, enough that, with a bit of hometown cooking, some of those rounds could have gone to the Russian.

Hurting Smith means nothing. Twice it was. He wasn’t dropped and in them rounds Smith had done more but even if you want to give both of them to the Russian it’s still not enough in my opinion.

OK thanks. I saw someone mention something about a KD that wasn't called. Smith dropped him?

I scored 8 rounds, rounds 5-12. As I only started watching from round 5 onwards.

But I fail to see how someone who wins 6-2 over the last 8 rounds, loses a fight 115-113 x2 and 117-111

    That is embarrassing for Russia.

Even if you lost the first 4 then it’s a draw...

Based on how the fight went if we give Liam 2/4 of the first 4 then a justifiable scorecard is

116-112 Liam Smith (8-4 in rounds)

What’s stunned got to do with scoring a fight? Apart from them rounds? Even that is debatable because stunning someone doesn’t necessarily negate all the other lads work in the round it’s up to the judges. I ageee it gives **** judges an easy excuse to give the round to the man they want but that doesn’t make it right.

The Russian looked ready to go a lot. He couldn’t wait for the bell in most round.

I scored it 115-113 for Smith (i gave Kurbanov: 1, 3, 6, 10, 11 rounds). 10th round i gave to Kurbanov with the last moment punches when he wobbled Smith, without those it would have been Smith´s round.

I can fully accept 115-113 for Kurbanov, but that 117-112 (or 111?) is a bit too wide. There was many close rounds and scores depends on what you prefer (like 3 light hits versus 1 power punch)...for example 8th I gave to Smith, but also wrote on my notes "very close".

Btw one company offered this fight as prefight bet till around end of 3rd round. will be interesting to see how they will solve my bet there while i made winning bet on early 3rd... so my bet was "live" although was made at prefight section.

Earlier I had same kind of issue with other company and they voided those bets although it clearly was their mistake to keep the fight available...

Yup; caught him clean and the ref said he slipped. Was more of a flash knockdown as Kurbanov was clearly fine and was winning the round both before and after, but the fact they didn't show replays on that but showed replays of Kurbanov tagging Smith all night long makes one pause to have a big think.

Stunning someone implies that your shot was hard enough that it paused and even switched the momentum of a round (which they did) meaning that they were the most significant blows of the round. While I don't disagree with your point about stunning shots shouldn't always (or even most of the time) negate the work done by the other fighter, plenty of fighters have stolen rounds they had been losing by visibly stunning their opponent, don't be daft.

Cheers. It does look like Kurbanov has a good chin to me because Smith caught him repeatedly with big rights over the top in quick succession in one of the rounds I did catch and they just bounced off of him.

Not right though is it? People nicking rounds by nicking the last 20 seconds are only allowed to by bad judges.

You’re also wrong. The shot that hurt Smith the most was right at the end of the round so there was no way to alter the round at all.

It’s more a lack of power on Smith’s behalf. He pinged Munguia all night with them also.

I've never understood why people think landing one big shot completely negates 2:59 of the other guy winning the round. Never made sense to me yet a lot of people seem to score that way.
