Quality fighter but seems to have been fighting at Commonwealth and British level forever. I remember when Boxnation started he was on their first show and it was a great commonwealth title s**** with Paul Appleby... that was like 2010 I think... He's been fighting at this level for years. I'm sure Hearn would quickly get him a final eliminator for a world title or something like that... ****** doesn't seem to care much about him.. how has he not even had a European title shot yet.. strange.
If Warden doesn't get Liam a shot at Flanagan or set Liam up with a Crolla fight maybe then Liam needs to have some serious words in my opinion. He deserves a shot and will upset the odds too as he will be a world champ 100% as he has too much for both Flanagan or Crollla or even Smith if need be. Warden needs to stop worrying about Fury and what he will make on BoxN and sort out his fighters or when Fury dumps him he won't have a stable left if he isn't careful.
Liam Walsh is injury proned which has stalled his career. Warrren also gave him a shot at Burns for the WBO years ago but he had a car accident. There is nothing Edward can do that Warrren can't - it's not a Martin Murray type situation who is ready & willing to fight every two months/short notice against undercard bums from Latvia- FW certainly wouldn't be able to satisfy that type of fighter with his limited amount of shows but Liam Walsh is inactive.
A car crash in my eyes isn't someone being injury prone? Crolla had his head nearly caved in but he's a world champion already so can't see any excuse for him to not have a shot by now, Burns offer was years ago wasn't it?
Liam has had a good few injurys.. Had an operation on hos hand.. His team also refused a few fights a couple of year ago.. I think they have been very clever he is now in my eyes the best Super Feather and Lightweight in the uk. Hopefully he takes the big fights now.
Fr4nk asnt moved him on because he was forever pulling out of fights with lame excuses. Thats why when fr4nk was asked after liams last win if he would be lining liam up for a world title shot fr4nk said "lets make sure his hands are ok" what he really meant is lets see if liam can be relied on. And it is true that he has had trouble with his hands ge has also pulled out over issues which werent the official excuses. Btw liam has seriously gone up a lvl imo and hopefully he can go onto better things now.
I would disagree, liam walsh will be fighting for a world title this year Two other points: Why do some fans seem to want the sport in the UK to be monopolised by one promotional company? Not all fighters need to be with Matchroom to become world champs regardless of what EH may tell you. Secondly, look at some of the fighters which have moved to matchroom, and how they've been insignificant since, either due to not being seen as a priority or poor matchmaking: -Frankie Gavin -Bradley Saunders -Matthew Macklin A promotional company can only focus on a certain number of boxers, i'd say the matchroom stable is at its limit
I would add swifty to the list as well. He did nothing for ages after hed jumped ship then when he eventully got a shot he was sent stateside
Talking of which..........I presume Paul Appleby has chucked it? He hasn't fought in over two years. A lot of early potential, blowing early opponents away and becoming the youngest ever British FW champion but a shocking lack of defence IMO was always going to mean he was in career shortening wars. :bbb
Agree. Seemed to really work had for their fighters a few years ago, now have so many quite a few have gone quiet. Just had a look at their website to see a list, dropdown list has loads - many of which I had forgotten were matchroom. Would be like signing for Chelsea/City/Utd etc - May be a big name but if you're not going to be in the first 11, you are keeping the bench warm
Frankie Gavin - given a world title shot, then the opportunity to headline his own show, gets injured and has been out since. Saunders - had the chance to headline his own show, got injured. Prior to that he decided to headbutt an opponent and get DQ'ed. Macklin - Got beat in an eliminator, badly. Has looked rubbish since and is likely to retire. In what way did Matchroom let those three down?
All about perspective. Gavin - Fed to brook, now seen as a domestic level fighter. Macklin - Allowed to box on his own shows out in spain, and appears now and again on 'stacked' undercards, Hearn probably hoped that rose would beat him. Saunders- Dennis Hobson managed to get him a WBO inter-continental title. Then at the age of 28 he moved to Hearn who stuck him on a couple of undercards against poorly matched opponents, when he should have been challenging for domestic titles. He's only lost once, but yet he's in no-mansland
