This is very true, although I would say the standard of opponents has been about equal.Decent or near world class men.The difference now is IMO Burns may still fight an elite world level man in Vasquez,or,if he moves up,Broner.Although for what its worth Id say avoid the latter.
Meant to say world class or near, men.Martinez definitely still is.Katsidis probably still waswhen Ricky fought him.Medina and the Argentinian were.
Yes Scott never fought them ones but they never fought him, after all he was a champ at that weight for ages. Marquez and that where his mandatory's, Barrera would not have a unification fight with him ! Chi draw with Chi then Scott knocked guy out in 4 rounds soon after ! Up until his last couple of fights at fw Scott would have been any of guys on that list, remember Pacman saying at time the mexicans where dodging him and Scott because they where the best two, remember McCullough say Scott was better than Moralas, Barrera, and Hamed after he fought him - some accolade(he fought them all too). Vasquez was not in class of any of them guys i mentioned ! Broner v ricky wont happen, Ricky has turned it down too often, and he walked away from a fight with Vasquez too. Does anyone think Scott would have walked away from Barrera, Marquez fights - no chance. Ricky has opportunities to outstrip Scotts achievements by fighting big unification fights at his own weight division and has turned it down on several occasions - an no one can deny that
Who are the people schooling Scott in sparring then Billy? i doubt it very much. Also SG77 you are right Billy is scared in case Scott takes the glory away from Ricky as it would be some story. And the reason the people are so keen to see Scott back is that he is always been exciting to watch - Ricky is sometimes exciting to watch, but not often.
Scotts got more attention from the press going to the shops than what Ricky got after he won the WBO.
I can assure you because I know better than you mate at no time was Barrera or Marquez ever offered,Brodie fought Scott a long time after chi and was finished unfortunately as a top fighter
I think Moog and sg77 are the same person.mate I've been told personally by two who sparred Scott and told if he fought Ricky it would be a mismatch
I can assure you Billy we are not the same person, just have similar sensible un biased views. Marquez was Scotts mandatory so could have fought Scott. The likes of McCullough and Mendina, Chacon where genuine world class fighters when Scott fought them, unfortunately for them they were in same division as some of best p4p boxers in the modern era at the same time, if they were all in the featherweight division now with the ability they had then they would all be holding world titles. Can you remember a weight class that had so many good fighters Billy fighting in it in the last 20 years ? Your talking about 4-5 great fighters, and another 4-5 world class ones at same time as featherweight division when all these guys fought in it. Please tell us these boxers schooling Scott in sparring ? Team Burns must be biased when it comes to Scotts sparring as Ricky was deemed by Team Harrison not good enough to spar with Scott when Scott was World Champ, and you where part of that team Billy !
No no Peter Harrison classed Ricky not good enough I suggested having him spar Ricky. How foolish must he feel now? Chacon was a very good fighter but not world class,he beat Victor Polo then lost to Scott in what I think was a career best performance,so you can hardly say chacon was world class he done nothing afterwards, same as polo he clearly beat Scott got a draw and never done anything afterwards. I think it's a case of you hearing what you want to hear, the sparring was told to me by the people sparring Scott. How can team burns be biased regards who Scott spars,Ricky's sparring British champs,ex champs and the very best prospects in the UK,you know and I know Scott isn't,so I don't understand the biased statement.
Moog and sg77 please except Ricky is the future of Scottish boxing,I understand you are fans of Scott so was I at one time, but it's now Rickys time he would destroy Scott no matter what Peter Harrison or the conditioning coach say. however this fight won't happen at least anytime soon and when Ricky wins he won't get a jot of credit from anyone
Biased because it is a painful subject, Ricky was not very good back then lets be fair, as i have said he is the most improved boxer in the UK, as there was so much room for improvement. As i said about Chacon and co, it was harder than ever to make an impact on that division as the strength and depth of division was on a different level to anything currently in the world. I was at the Polo fight, i know a lot of people think Scott lost, i never i thought he edged it. Was a bit like Bellow fight last week, only one person trying to make a fight, do not get me wrong was hardly a great night for Scott, for his standards he was poor that night but still managed to get a draw. Ricky will be sparring better quality that Scott i would imaging, as unfortunately Scott properly does not currently have he money to pay good fighters to come up to Scotland and spar him.
I understand that but he's only himself to blame for that. The public love Ricky down to earth guy who still works, very approachable Young man who's only ever been on the back pages of the papers,it's called TOTAL PROFFESIONALISM and the public appreciate that.
