@CST80? Sorry bud, too lazy to search and see if you did a prospect report on him....... What do you think of him? Brits? I thought he was the better fighter between he and Liam Smith, how does this kid do on the world stage? Could he be competitive? From what I have seen of him, I like him a lot, I think he is very sharp and has good skill and good all-around athleticism. IB, any thoughts on him?
Big fan of the skillset of Liam, I did a thread on him a few years back on the recommendation of @Serge, he's very solid all around, and from a technical standpoint he's very good in every department while not being extraordinarily great in any of them. I thought he was schooling Smith at the time of the poorly timed by the corner TKO stoppage, and I was one of a handful of people that thought Williams beat Smith in the rematch as well, I think in the rematch, Smith greatly benefited from exceeding the low expectations set for him by the fans heading into it. They all assumed the fight would play out like the first one, and LS did marginally better, and actually attempted to box a little, and everyone was wowed by that, similar to what happened in GGG-Canelo II, but IMO Williams still did enough to edge it. His one main drawback seems to be lack of self confidence, not sure whether its his heart, fear for his chin, fear of gassing, but he seems to be missing that killer instinct and next level he can take it to, he never seems to want to put the peddle to the medal when in his bigger fights, if he could just bring the tenacity he shows while facing mid level guys against his better opponents, he'd be a hard out for anyone. He kind of reminds me of Joseph Parker in terms of his drive. But if he can get that worked out, yeah, I think he could at least achieve being fringe world level.
Liam Williams is very talented and hits really hard but like CST said he seems to be missing something mentally and he has 2 loses on his record to a less talented fighter he should've beaten IMO. Gary Lockett cost him victory in the first Smith fight by waving it off after Williams suffered a cut and Smith seemed to get to in his head in the rematch and Williams ended up under performing albeit it was still very close. But he's switched trainers now and is training with Dominic Ingle and he's getting plenty of top sparring down there in Sheffield with the likes of BJS 2.0, Kell Brook, and Jason Quigley among others so hopefully the change of trainers can bring the best out of him. He's got a great fight coming up against the undefeated big punching Mark Heffron next month which should be a cracker. Williams already beat Heffron's brother Ronnie so that adds an extra bit of spice to the match up.
