If this guy gets licenced to box it goes to show how pointless the BBBoC is because he publicly spoke about the headaches and concussions he was suffering before the Eubank fight THREE YEARS AGO and how he had concerns about CTE. No promoter should go near him and no fighter should sign to fight him if they have any ethics at all.
Looks like he's squinting far more frequently than he used to, too. This guys long done, must need cash, he still lives in a **** hole, probably never earnt much out of the game.
No No No, he's had his time. Good fighter, but it's gone. He can't take a punch. Was getting put down by jabs at one point. Correct decison to retire. Train others, commentate, stay involved but if your tempted to get back in the ring just dont
Not many of these similar comeback stories end in anything but showing to be really poor life decisions, not just boxing ones. I'm not having he didn't earn a decent amount out of his career. Muti millions obviously not but surely a house or two paid off and a decent amount of money in the bank. Interview I saw he said he's still got a lot to give, 33 isn't old in boxing but his punch resistance is gone and he's always had hand problems. Good career but pointless comeback, won't end well.
As others have said, he clearly looked done by the end, so it’s got to be money that’s pulling him back. Shame really, because he was a good fighter – and in that first Smith fight he was very unlucky. It looked like a clear intentional butt from Liam to me, and it should’ve gone to the cards, where all three judges had Williams a point up.
He lives in the cheapest area in Wales to buy a house, so you'd think he would have bought a few out of the better paydays over the years, houses sell for peanuts where he lives. Must own a few, surely.
This isn't good to see I enjoyed Williams at his peak and unfortunately towards the end he was horribly shot with the balance of a one legged man Maybe he has gone more to give but it's certainly not at the top level
His BBC interview was a hard read. The Board shouldn't even entertain giving him a licence but sadly, if they don't someone else will.
If a man wants to fight professionally that has any sort of decent record in their 30's despite obviously being shot and physically way past their best sadly someone, somewhere will put them on a show. Be it pro, semi pro, unlicensed to even getting the call to join BKFC, with his record as a pro boxer and 33, all those options are very open right or wrong. Extreme cases being Nick Blackwell trying to comeback after a real second chance that many don't get to guys like Paul Briggs the Australian in debt and a court case for a fixed fight and a betting scandal. It's up to the individual and even if people around them advise them not to they still will, neurological damage for example often shows up later on after a career. It's entirely up to Williams, it's his life it but will it be the people around him that may suffer also down the line? Possibly, probably.
I came across Williams since we were in the same hotel floor in Newcastle when he fought Liam Smith. Bit of an entourage, same room as we were in so nothing grand - you did wonder if he was taking home that much out of the fight as the less well-known fighter on a Warren show. These guys are basically hitting peak earnings at 30ish and (as someone said) if they haven't been able to invest then they might be snookered for life, physically mentally and financially. It's awful to see.
