http://www.corussports.com/radio/audioplayer.php?file=1281173.mp3&mode=cn&id=1281173&date=20081116 The questions are in french but Librado answers in English and the host translates them.
He said he thought the ref should have stopped the fight whilst Bute was still on his feet, before the KD. He then said that he accepts the ref's decision. He said that in Bute's place, he'd have wanted the same decision from the ref. He gives credit for Bute for getting up. He said he had nothing against Bute and that he'd like to fight him again because "we both think we can beat each other". "If this fight leaves Bute with a bitter taste, like it does for me, let's do it again." He said he should have started to do what he did in the 12th round earlier. Worth listening to, when you get home.
He says that the knockdown by Bute was a push (nothing new) He wanted to brawl with Bute and finally got him in the 12th round, he felt that he was stronger than him and that's why he always wanted to go on the inside, but Bute was clinching. In the 12th round he felt really fresh and really went for the knockout, and he wasn't really sore after the fight. He tought that he won and that Bute was out, but he is not angry at anybody, and would like another fight. He thinks he can beat Bute, and his goal is not to win rounds but go for the knockout. He would do the rematch in Montreal, he doesn't care. Today he doesn't agree or disagree with the decision, when he goes in Bute's shoes he understands the decision with the rules but he thinks that he won. If Bute feels bad with this fight, he would like a rematch a lot. He feels peaceful and is not angry at anybody, but would like to do it again. The host says that before the fight he was friendly with Bute, but he seemed frustrated with Bute during then fight. He asks him if the fight could've went differently if he was more agressive toward Bute during the pre-fight. Librado says that yes, he was too patient and fought Bute's fight. When he started doing his thing everything changed. The story of the gloves : his version is that Interbox didn't put the gloves he chosed on the table and told Howard about it, and said that he didn't care. His promoter and Otis did care about it and Interbox gave them the contract to validate their position but it was in french and the only one who understood was Otis, he started translating it but Librado said that he didn't care of the gloves and wanted to fight, and he warmed-up without gloves. He doesn't think that Interbox cheated but just wanted to give this gloves. The host asks if Kessler and Bute are in the same category. Andrade says no, Bute can maybe get there but for the moment no. Kessler is very intense and can fight. Kessler is way ahead of Bute. In the Kessler fight he couldn't touch him but was able and knew he could touch Bute and hurt him. Bute and Kessler are very different styles but Kessler is still better even if Librado now is better than before. In conclusion : Librado is a very nice guy (we already knew it) and real gentleman. I hope the rematch comes !!
Librado comes across as a genuinely kind, decent man more than anything. He thanks Otis and Howard Grant for training him and letting him stay at their home in Montreal. They are Canadians by the way. As to the fight with Bute he says he felt pretty good after the fight and especially his torso wasn't hurting . The knockdown that was credited to Bute was clearly a push says Andrade. He says the ref allowed Bute to clinch way too much rather than let them fight on the inside. As to the debacle in the last 30 seconds of the fight , Andrade says he felt the ref should have stopped the fight. He would like to have a rematch and says it could be in Montreal. Andrade says the gloves he used were not the ones he had earlier agreed on. The Bute camp chose the gloves both fighters were used. The fight contract was in French which Andrade does not read. I wanted Andrade to win and thought he should have been the winner by KO. Andrade rates Kessler as at a total level above Bute. He says he couldn't get to Kessler but he knew he could get to Bute . He goes on to say that boxing is a tough sport and often unfair which doesn't suit his personality. This I believe but he does have the physical durability and in the ring he is mentally tough. Like many boxers they are super nice outside the ring but inside the ring... look out !
I think Librado plays the fool too much and comes across as a very nice guy, but reading between the lines, he makes some serious false accusations, knowing that they're false e.g. aboute the rules, the ref and the gloves. Of course, he is a nice guy, but not as nice as he wants us to think/ as nice as he'd like to be, imo.
Yes I totally agree. Nobody's perfect. I still remember all the medias here talking of Librado as a gentle friendly slow hitting mexican that Bute will handle (and I think that's what he wanted everyone - including Bute - to think). It worked very well.
I had a feeling even before the fight that Andrade was trying to get under Bute's skin a bit and play at being friends, because Bute's an open, generous, friendly person, and Andrade has the same reputation. But I also felt that Bute would not take him lightly. I think Bute did not underestimate him...it's just that Andrade was tougher and stronger and had a better chin than he could have imagined just by watching the tapes. After the fight, in the post fight interview, we saw the real face of Andrade, and he wasn't the very nice guy we thought he was...! Even now, weeks after the fight, he makes some false, damaging accusations; just because he sugarcoats them and says nice things too doesn't change much, essentially. Andrade is a nice guy, but he is also a Trojan horse type person, I feel. Bute must have realised it, to a certain extent too, fortunately for him, I think.
The time collector is for real. No other fighter in the world, could be so calm after the Bute fight. Respect all the way!!!!. Decebal now try to push the controversy to the Andrade camp. Decebal - sometimes silents is gold.
Jan(DK), relax, we are not trying to discredit Andrade, we just try to be objective. Andrade IS a nice guy and boxing needs more people like him and Bute. The point is that Andrade is human and it's normal if he feels angry - anybody in his situation would be, he was really close to accomplish his dream. Nobody in this story is clean and there's no "good" side. Don't forget that boxing is a business and everyone tries to favour their camp to win by doing different things, tricks to stress the other camp and etc. The goal is to win the belt and the money together.
I dont understand why Andrade is a Trojan horse, mate!? Andrade is rightfully confused about the outcome of the fight and he says he wants a rematch and btw doesnt care if its in Montreal again. I think thats pretty humble and not agressive in any way. I agree with Andrade that Bute MUST seek the rematch as well as he must feel like he didnt win the fight and the status. Andrade is a nice guy - I cant hear any of the "bad" accusations you are referring to.
If he's confused, he should just say he feels he deserves a rematch because it was a very close fight. He shouldn't say the fight should have been stopped with Bute on his feet (no standing count rule) only to say the result was fair, if you look at it from Bute's point of view. He shouldn't talk about the gloves, ending up saying false things and blame it on his lack of French. He shouldn't criticise the referee but still sugarcoat it by saying he respects the referee's decisions. It's understandable that he should feel disappointed with the outcome. Watch the post fight conference - it's on youtube. You will see his "live" reaction and thoughts. Judge for yourself whether that is the Andrade that you know and love. But you're right. Bute MUST give him a rematch the sooner the better, to prove unequivocally that he is the better man.
A rematch is probably gonna happen, since Andrade is now ranked #3, while Bute will fight his optional fight against a Sauerland guy, Andrade will fight for the #1 spot.
Relax Decibel. If the only controversy was after the fight when Andrade act disrespectful and tried to lie and cheat and Bute won 10-2, why should Andrade have a rematch ?
