The two of them shadowboxing together was so darn cute!

 

Ornelas's opponent looks a bit soft in the middle, but is posing for the cameras like a badass as if he isn't headed into a smack-down.

Round 1

Hernandez comes out aggressively, grabbing Ornelas behind the head and pulling him into his shots. Hernandez actually forcing him to trade and getting the better of it. Nice fight already! Hernanez lands a hard hook that turns Ornelas' head. Hernandez dances around and jabs, turning his outer shoulder in and showboating a little. Ornelas follows and jabs, slapping with a soft right hand but getting countered. DAMN!!! Hernandez drops him with a hard uppercut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF? HERNANDEZ COMES BACK AT HIM SLUGGING HARD! ORNELAS ANSWERS WITH A HARD LEFT HOOK TO THE JAW AND ONE TO THE BODY!! ANOTHER UPPERCUT BY HERNANDEZ!!!! THEY TRADE, WITH MINIMAL MOVEMENT!!! THIS ROUND IS VERY COOL!!!

Round 2

Hernandez chases Ornelas into the ropes with his hard 1-2 on a repeating track. Ornelas fights his way off and digs several hard hooks into the chest of Hernandez. Ornelas jabs and uppercuts his way forward, taking control of the center of the ring. Hernandez ties him up. Hernandez gets his jab going, but it isn't his best punch. Hernandez is grabbing him and pushing him away to jab him as he's drifting off. Ornelas is fooled once, shame on him - but starts hooking on his way back when Hernandez keeps trying it. Both are landing hard shots to the head and body, leaning into each other. Hard chopping right by Ornelas. Hernandez throws a shoeshine to the body. Ornelas is backed to the ropes. Ornelas is chasing and throwing nonstop leather.

I think Ornelas hustled enough to claim one back.

19-18 Hernandez

 

Round 3

HUGE LEFT HOOK BY ORNELAS, LEAPING FORWARD!! He doubles it and backs Hernandez up. BUT HERNANDEZ ANSWERS BACK, and hurts Ornelas. These guys are throwing like this was the ultimate battle of good vs. evil. Hard stuff landing both ways. Both are getting rocked but showing chins of stone. Neither is employing much footwork, nor does it seem either could be very fleet of foot even if they wanted it to. It just means more punches thrown in range, and more heads there as willing targets. Great stuff. Total slugfest, in slow motion. Finally they clinch up and their pace slows (whereas before it was just the punches and steps that were slow, while the pace was nonstop). The commentators sound like they can't believe all the punishment being dealt out both ways.

 

Round 4

Ornelas throws combos coming forward; jabs and uppercuts stringing together and lots of them landing. Hernandez won't go away and in fact stuns Ornelas a bit with his return fire before leaning into him to clinch up. Ornelas is really going for it now, throwing hard left hooks to the body with everything he has. We are not even at the halfway point; he'll need to be careful not to tucker himself out with this dangerous *******. Hernandez is doing more pushing and clinching than punching right now, however. Hernandez lands some nice right hands while pushing Ornelas to the ropes but eats a big uppercut.

Ornelas ground that one out, IMO.

 

Round 5

Ornelas throws first, hooking while backing up. Hernandez stomps along with his straighter but slightly less heavy blows (and there is an emphasis on slightly). I think Ornelas is just ever so slightly more powerful but Hernandez has a slightly better chin. Nice overhand right set up by a jab lands for Ornelas, who has begun to back Hernandez up. Of course, regardless of who is coming forward they are both just shuffling along and matching each other step for lumbering step. Ornelas may have finally cracked that nut! He hurts Hernandez with an uppercut and keeps laying it on, fierce punches all the way to the wire. Hernandez is right there with him, though...actually taking his turn to come forward while getting outpunched but not for lack of trying on his part.

Damn!!!

10-9 Ornelas

 

Round 6

Ornelas hooks and moves. This is the first time one of them has made ay serious attempt to not be right up close. Ornelas stays lateral and flurries. Hernandez has dropped his output significantly, and tries some desperation uppercuts telegraphed from below his hips. Ornelas keeps his hands up and circles out, jabbing and curling two-fisted combos into Hernandez's face. Ornelas putting on a clinic, of all people. Hernandez, who very much looked poised for the upset in the first few frames no longer seems to have any answers now that Ornelas is actually moving. Hard uppercuts for Ornelas!! Now he just opens up with every punch in the book! Hernandez sits on the middle rope as Ornelas blasts him in the face!!!

Some corners would have thrown in the towel there.
